A different type of clunk

This is my second cobra and Im familiar with how the driveline clunks when it is put into gear. However my latest car has that clunk along with another as the clutch is let all the way out. Happens most prominently in 1st, and gets less so as the gears go up. I can lessen or make it completely go away if I let the clutch out very slowly. By very slowly I mean 2-3 seconds of pedal movement.

It feels like the IRS may be slamming up or down and letting the clutch out slower mitigates this. Can anyone confirm my suspicion before I go spending money on bushings and bolts?

The car is completely stock except for a steeda tri-ax shifter.

Thanks, --Matt

Got the same exact problem, not terribly bad but its a mini clunk, makes you feel and everyone else feel like you can't shift! Everyone keeps telling me and I keep reading its the bushings, but i'm not so sure

Front of diff bushings...very common..

Another area..front of rear sub frame bolts...by now most have replaced them..

The size wrench used will tell if they were replaced..

Stock bolt is to thin ..its like a 3/8 and replacement is 9/16..

15/18MM is stock..22mm/7/8 is replacement..

So believe it or not, for a 90k mile car, all subframe bushings and bolts were good. There was a lot of slop in the rear end when we put it on a lift. My buddy pulled the diff and it was nasty as hell, tons of play in it. New clutches and shimmed up, it is being put back in tomorrow along with some exhaust upgrades.

Not just front diff bushings but the rear as well. VERY common in these cars.
