A few weeks ago Todd Warren posted this rusty old crankshaft up in his Facebook group. He ended up sending it to me for cost of shipping because we have a pretty awesome crank shop in town here that I've had fix cranks like this before. I took some before and after pics. Many would have thrown this into the scrap heap.....but this one will live another day. $245 to repair it

That’s crazy.

I have a spare crank kicking around with a little scoring on the thrust surface is like to have fixed at some point. These things are getting harder and harder to find.

Holy crap that’s awesome! How much under did they have to go on the journals to get it cleaned back up?

Astounding work there. Astounding price, too. I'll bet some who've tossed rusted crankshafts who see this thread or those photos will kick themselves. LOL.

It cleaned up at .010 on both. They had to weld on the #1 main journal, then they machine and heat treat it.

Yeah should definitely save em. I am confident my local crank shop can fix just about anything.

What do you think about turning one down .020? Mine needs that much taken off and I wasn’t sure if that was worth doing or just finding another crank.

I would've thrown an extra .5 quart of oil in and ran as is...

Haha

Looks awesome.

No issues with one turned .020. My current one in my engine has been .010 under for 15 years. Even snapped a rod in half in 2016, but that crank is still in service.
