Anyone know what this 8mm Nazi ammo is worth?

So I ordered a couple 900 round cases of 8mm ammo for my mauser 98k and somehow an old 900 rd case of intact 15 round boxes of 1940 nazi ammo showed up amung the mix. I contacted the guy and he said he would have kept it for himself and his loss is my gain. I have seen just an empty box go for as much as 10 bucks. I did research on this particular dated ammo box and apparently the germans had a brass shortage and sswitched to steel cases that year.

not much unless you had the luger to go with it

A luger? unless im mistaken, that would be one hell of a handgun to fire a bullet about the same size as a 30-06 bullet:??: This is ammo for a mauser rifle and also used in their machine guns.
My mauser98k is an original rifle that has nazi markings on it but im not selling it. Its not from mitchells either

I don't know what it's worth, but i am always cautious of hording old ammo, as the nature of gun powder becomes MORE volatile the older it gets, but if it's kept in a dry temperature controlled environment it's a good find.

yeah. i pulled a couple bullets and the inside of case and its contents are premo. All my ammo is stored in climate control. Im not really tryin to make a buck. However, You cant find one box of this stuff intact let alone the box anywhere and i would HATE to shoot this stuff and regret it. Any of you guys would have the same conscience if you were in my shoes. One of those things, i need to know before i shoot. Although, I have so much 8mm ammo, it would be years before i started to bite into this crate

Honestly,
I would feel the same way. If there was a box with some missing, i would send a few rounds down range, but if the boxes are complete i would hang on to it for a while.

why?

even if it goes off, without a barrel to focus the explosion and use the expanding gases to accelerate and project the slug outward, there isnt enough velocity to do any damage just firing straight from the shell.

Explosives still explode... But it really depends on the quality of powder. i know for a fact once TNT degrades it becomes nitroglycerin like and any heavy jarring becomes an issue...the bullet isn't the issue, it the exploding shell cooking-off and catching a face full of shrapnel.

I've actually shot a 12ga with a .22 to see what would happen, and the shot barely move anywhere, but the plastic shell exploded and came shooting back at me:lol:

It could set off any other ammo in there with it, that'd be his concern, I would think.

well the masuer rifle bolt assembly is one of the strongest ever made. well so i read anyway. My dad just bought a brand new winchest model 70 in .375 H&H Mag. It has the same bolt design. I think the mauser could probably handle a split case or a case head seperation pretty nice

Id hang onto it, take it to a collector shop that specializes in WWII artifacts to get an accurate quote. History is awesome in the fact that its artifacts usually never depreciate. Cool mistake though, 98's are awesome weapons, id like to get one sometime.

I collect world war two stuff, to the right buyer it is worth something intact, the package itself is very important so handle it carefully. Any NAZI insignia on it will also up its value. Nazi stuff is collectible but some of it freaks people out, I only have a NAZI helmet and a few other items but only because it was brought home from the war via my Grandfather, otherwise I would have sold the helmet by now.

Take it to the Pawn Stars and ask for an obscene amount of money before even knowing what it's worth. Then after they take it to a specialist and he tells you what it's worth, ask them for exactly that amount of money. The response will be some smart ass comment about how you're out of your mind, then they'll offer you maybe 30-40% of that. After a long, dramatic, five second pondering session, you'll take it either because you're desperate for cash or you're just a dumbass. Then you'll shake hands and someone will say, "Chum, go write up the paperwork." Afterwards, they'll probably take a rifle to a friend's firing range and nominate Chumly to test fire a few rounds in case they explode in his face. He'll make a woe-is-me comment about how he's always the one they pick for these situations, but then he'll do it anyways.

FlahDah man.
The current price of lead and copper by weight. the only option is for a collector to opt in, he'd reduce price for open boxes.

yeah i opened up 3 boxes and about 4 are kinda ripped. there is still about 50 boxes untouched and the flap never opened. the rounds from the boxes i did open had slight rust. however, like mentioned, i pulled a couple bullets to check the insides of the cases and the gun powder. The insides of the cases are very clean and the powder is great. I read that sometimes the shells can rust from the inside out but is not the case with these. I fired off the primers too and they are good and loud. Im gonna fire a few of the bullets this weekend and give the report here. Im not worried about case failure with these.
