I'm seeing all the threads about 3.73's and the consensus is saying that they are too much gear. So what about 3.55's?
I'm debating on getting a '12 gt so that's why i'm curious. I'd be keeping it mostly stock save for a few bolt on's. No s/c as i'd rather just get a gt500 if i were to go that route...

what are you going to be using the car for?

1/4 mile 3.73s = you shifting into 5th

road course = don't matter

street stuff = you shifting alot

^agreed. Figure out what you want first. Keep in mind, for street/drag, the 3.73's will pull harder than the 3.55's.

The 3.73's are fine for a car with bolt on's and a tune with stock height tires. However, they are not optimal for a car with a power adder, that's when you want the numerically lower gear.

3.73's are short, but not too short. I could live with 3.55's after driving mine with 73's over the past 6 months.

Depends on the tire. Brembo cars yes, Premiums on 19's no. I have the Nickel 19" wheels with 245/45' that are about .5" taller than the 255/40's puting me on the limiter as I cross the 1320.

The difference will be minimal in my opinion.

I've now had all 3 choices. 3.55's are my favorite for the street. Too much shifting with the 3.73's. Also I cruise at 80 + regularly and 3.73's made my rpms a bit too high.

I test drove 3.31 and decided to go for 3.55. The stock 3.31 just didn't pull that hard. 3.55 feels like it pulls well - I've never driven 3.73 but imagine 1st gear is useless but fun.

I had 3.31, 3.73, and now I'm using 3.55s. I didn't like the 3.73s at all.. extra shift in the 1/8th and 1/4. I think the 3.55s feel the strongest

I had 3:55 went to 3:73. Mine will cruise at 70 at 1700-1800 in 6th.

3:73 Great for 50-90mph. 1st gear is pretty much useless. Both are good but I prefer 3:73.

Driven both, my car has 3.55's. I'm happy with them on the street. Can't imagine it would really matter much on a track day.

I'm like most, I do not like the 3.73. 1st is way too short and useless at fully power. That's with oem tires and tune at the time. 3.55 in my 04 cobra felt way better, different car/tranny though. I generally skip shift when I cruise around as the gears are so close together. Not sure if it affects my mileage doing that or not. It does Feel smoother and keeps the long haired passengers from complaining as much.

Drove all three different gears. Chose 3.73's for sotp feel. Don't need fifth in the 1/4. plan to auto-x as well as hit some road courses, and getting out of the corner harder would be more beneficial to me, as I'm prolly never gonna get it on a long course and need the top speed.

And I daily my car 24/7/365, rain, shine, or snow. Got blizzaks on her now...
