The rebates are the customer's, in my eyes. Some dealerships operate differently, but I think that's wrong. The manufacturer has the rebates available for the customers in order to help make the cars more affordable and competitively priced...NOT for dealerships to pocket an extra few grand.

The rebates do not go against any profit line; the only thing would be that if the dealership kept the rebates, then obviously it would increase profit.

I don't completely agree with you on the 3 things it takes to be a salesman. I think they should be more like:
1.) Be a product specialist, be able to answer a LARGE scope of possible questions at any given time on any vehicle line you sell
2.) Be polite, courteous and professional at all times
3.) Be able to present options for the customers to choose from in order to obtain financing/pay cash.

If you can do that, you can sell cars for me. If a salesperson is hung up on manipulation, lying, deceiving, etc etc etc....they will be terminated immediately.

I want all of my salespeople to treat customers like I'd want my mother treated if she walked in to buy a car.

Oh no I didn't mean the dealers were pocketing rebates. I mean maybe they were telling the customers that they couldn't give x-plan with rebates so that the customer would use the Costco discount. Then the dealership would make 500 over invoice instead of 100. Of course, this is speculation and if this is what they did, then they didn't tell me either. But it makes sense.

I generally always met your three requirements as long as I didn't get management involved. I always tried my best to be honest and never play games with the customers but sometimes the managers would practically force me to. Sometimes if a customer had a question about the deal that I couldn't answer, I'd have to ask the managers. A lot of times the managers would just roll their eyes, and instead of answering the question, give me a counter-question to ask or something. I hated that because I lost every deal that happened with. It immediately made the customer think I was playing games with them.

Another reason I made no money was that they forced me to split commissions with a "team leader" (just a saleperson that had worked there longer) until I proved myself. ALL commissions, whether or not he helped me with the deal or whether or not he was even working that day. I minimum commission was $150. The majority of my deals were minimum....split in half. Had several deals I made with no help split with him.

That's awesome that you feel that way about it. Maybe if I had worked for a manager like you, I would've enjoyed it more and made more money.

Anyway, this is getting way off topic. My original point was that Costco is a good way to go. Especially if you aren't close to a decent dealer and don't get x-plan.
