+1 for either. I should buy one but having one really means you're pretty much guarenteed a ticket if pulled over. I'm not ready to give up that chance yet.

I will have to detach it if I get pulled over. At least try to.

The BEST ONE?

Is the one you leave in the box! If your observant you won't need one...One thing I can guarantee you is..IF you're stopped for speeding..and you have one...you will never get a warning, break or anything. I'm not quite sure the response you want on an LEO site. Do you expect anyone in the field to advocate you get one? Asking how to avoid speeding, other than slowing down, will do nothing other create an argument with LEOs on this site... :wf:

heres a question that I was curious but can't cops pull you over without using a device? like the radar detectors only will alert you when it dedects the cop hiding out with the speed checker. But say a cop is just hiding in the bushes and watching and he sees all the car pass at normal speed but then all of a sudden see YOU pass at a speed that he knows you're speeding. Can't he pull you over with that and give you a ticket? If not, what excuse do you use?

I guess I asked this in the wrong forum. The main reason I was asking is because where I am at people get pulled over for 5mph over the speed limit sometimes like I did. I did get a warning for 5MPH over but it was a time spend on the side of the road, not driving my Cobra.

A cop doesn't have to be using some sort of a speed detector to be able to write you a ticket. I know that California Highway Patrol officers recieve training to be able to judge the speed of cars using only their eye. For this reason, radar detectors are not foolproof - they are not going to save your ass from cops if you are going way over the limit or if you are doing something reckless or stupid. I still really like my valentine one because it allows me to speed while feeling more comfortable rather than paranoid which is how I feel when speeding without it.

honestly..... ive had a valentine 1 for years and its saved me alot but ive also had 3 tickets with it.... then it got stolen and i havent had a ticket yet..... lol that was a year ago.... i guess without one im more careful BUT that being said get a scrambler... and get one thats not obvious... i heard there was ones that the senor goes in the grill and the box can be anywhere IE glove box and not hanging from windshield. the one my brother in law has scrambles it up until i think like 30 ft or something from the cop so it just seems like there radar is screwed up. giving u time to slow down before u show up on there gun. it doesnt make any noise so u would have to have a dectector as well.

I got one ticket with a detector 9 years ago

Since then i haven' t had one and havn't gotten a ticket. I am just ever vigilent and i usually set my cruise on 75 in a 65 and have passed hundreds of LEO without them batting an eye. Why you ask because if you a going with the flow of traffic ( i tend to go about 1mph faster than the flow) they won't bother you most times

Or you can just let some guy going 85 or so zing on by you and then follow him/her from about 1/2-1 mile back

Perhaps I'm being redundant..

Why ask LEOs about your ability to evade radar? We don't want you to speed...Speed helps contributes to collisions [ notice I didn't say "accidents" as there is no such thing as someone caused it ]. I see some here tell of their "success" stories...but I for one am tired of "handling" traffic fatalities..and those who speed here...get no break....For example, you're feeling gutsy...and you just bump it up...and come upon a "grey hair" in traffic quickly...What do you think she is goin to do? She/He will think what in the hell is going on and chances are slam on the breaks...Result? ..If you buy/install such a device..and come here...and get caught..and Lord forbid...there's a collision caused... your license, your money and liberty are at stake....

I usually go with traffic but a Cobra stands out in the crowd espically a Red one

I asked because Cobras stick out even in the flow of traffic.

I am a retired leo,I have a question to ask.I was never trained in radar. Can you shoot the radar on oncoming traffic while you are moving.I got stop the other day and he said he clocked me going 76,but he was driving the oppisite direction. He was very cool with me so I did not question it,but I was wondering if it is accurate.I do not know how fast I was going so I was just curious. Thanks guys....
