You guys act like the drivers in the Memphis area have some sense of courtesy and an obligation to follow the laws, rules and guidelines of the road.
I've lived in the DC area, Dallas area, Phoenix area and now the Memphis area. If you sent all the worst drivers from DC, Dallas, and Phx here, it would improve the quality of the drivers by 100%.
It is about a monthly occurance for me to see somebody in the left lane cross over to make a right exit off the highway. Usually this involves slowing to ~20mph in front of traffic doing 80 (in a 55).
Memphis drivers stop at flashing yellow lights, turning the intersection into a 4-way stop. People from out of town go through the flashing yellow only to get T-boned by the guy flooring it off the flashing red because they think the guy at the flashing yellow should stop.
In Memphis the right and left turn lanes are there so that you can bypass the other traffic and jump the light to go straight.
Left lane for passing? Not in Memphis...
