From what's been gathered there's going to be 2 Cobras :

Shelby Cobra
Mustang SVT Cobra

Unfortunetly both being called Cobra is confusing the piss out of everyone.

Cant be anymore confusing then what Chrysler's got going on with SRT.

Shelby Cobra = the 427 Roadsters of the late 60s and the new V-10 concept two seater roadster.

Shelby MUSTANGS are what they sound like, GT350 and GT500 editions of the Mustang.

So are they referring to the 2 seater coupe concept or is that now dead in favor of a (former SVT) Shelby Mustang Cobra???

Kinda like the Mustang GT and the Ford GT (should be GT40)...

Just got back from a vacation in Vegas and had an opportunity to visit Shelby Headquarters. During the tour of the shop I saw a 2005 Mustang in partial disassembly. When asked, our guide gave a little smile and finally did admit that they (Shelby) will more than likely produce about 100 Shelby Mustangs. He went on to add that Ford would probably also sell a limited edition that they will call a Shelby Mustang but would be a slightly different car.

Also, FYI, if anyone has the opportunity to visit them definately take the time. There are vintage roadsters, Mustangs and a new GT and it's free. Thay also give a tour of the shop in the AM.

Thanks for the update. That sure helps muddy up the rumor board. Now Ford and Shelby will both be producing a Shelby? Maybe the rumored GT500 will be Shelbys, the SVT will still be a Cobra and the GT350 will be the Mach 1 level Special Edition. Sounds like a winner to me.

Wow, I'm surprised he let that out. That's what happens when an 80 year old is full of inside info.

That cat was dying to get out of the bag somehow. 5.4L S/C 500hp Shelby Mustang.....

Rejoice!

This is what I hear too. SVT is here to stay, so there will be a SVT Mustang Cobra. I bet the Shelby Cobra will be a limited edition like the 10th anniv. Cobra was. I would also bet that only it will have the 5.4 liter engine.

Ive followed your careful choice of words on this forum, and I could tell you knew because you would always tell about how "nasty" it was going to be, but yet didnt say a word. I respect you for that but I have to ask. Is this the succesor to the 03-04 Cobras? Or is this going to be the 55-60k Shelby top of the line Cobra, that is above the 40k SVT Mustang cobra that everyone really wants to know about.

One thing we can be sure of is it won't have the same engine as the 03s and 04s ... motor trend has an article on another car that has the cobra engine and other mustang parts .... they state the the 4.6L supercharged engine is discontinued from Ford ....

That means it will have a different engine than what is currently in the 03's and 04's ..

i told u guys lk 6 months ago it was a twin screw dohc 4v 5.4L. Most likely the shelby is just mods ontop of the base cobra (which has the gt powertrain) all done by shelby. We only did tuning on one motor/output configuration on the test mules.

Panoz bought up the remaining 03/04 Cobra engines from Ford.

If the future SVT Mustang truely has a GT powertrain, there ain't no way it's coming in remotely close to $40k.

I heard 3v 5.4 SC not 4v. What would be the pros/cons of 3v over 4v?

If we're talking GT 4v heads vs. the standard 3v Ford 4.6/5.4L castings, there's a HUGE difference in performance capability. The good news is if it does come with a 3v you should be able to swap on some GT heads and a Shelby/GT lower intercooler.
