<< Why they announce it to all the news stations and papers I have no idea. >>

They always announce this stuff. I think it help with entrapment. If they tell you what they are doing then you can't complain. You were dully warned.

<< Actually LIDAR jammers are legal becasue the FCC does not regulate devices that transmit infrared light. RADAR jammers are illegal because the FCC does regulate devices that transmit radio frequency energy. Case closed, LIDAR jammers are legal. >>

That true of federal law. Some states, counties and cities have banned these devices though. So you might not break federal law, but local laws. Which will still get you a ticket or your equipment confiscated.

Regarding laser jammers. I have the Escort Laser Shifter. Works great! It has two jammers on the front of the car and one on the rear. The secret to using a laser jammer is to drop your speed the instant it alarms. And since the laser has to actually hit the front of your car for the speed to be read, you know it is actually being aimed at you. So the sequence is:
Braap- you drop your speed to the limit.
As you are slowing down you reach under the dash for your hidden shut off button. When you hit it, your jammer is shut off for about one minute.
The police officer is looking through the sight on the laser gun and as soon as it beeps he knows it has locked your speed. He looks at his speed display and sees, the speed limit. Or whatever you had slowed down to before you hit the shut off button.
Why do you hit the shut off button. Good question. Some of the latest laser guns will display the word "JAMMED" if it doesn't sense a correct laser frequency speed reading. So you hit the shut off button and give him one! And isn't the entire purpose of speed enforcement to get people to slow down? Which it exactly what you have just done. It just didn't cost you anything to "obey" the speed law.

I wish this would bother me but it doesn't. I have taken 80 many times here in sacramento all over the place and rarely have I seen CHP. driving in the slow lane has it's bonuses. :)
