Sorry, but it's not the vehicle. It's the loose nut behind the wheel, who shouldn't be licensed anyway, that should be banned. SUV's don't kill people. People kill people.

neways, if I were to buy a car like this, I would buy a WRX, put the extra money I saved in buying this Focus with it's hypothetical SC 4.6 Cobra Motor that no one you know will ever own and spank the hell out of it (within its class of course)..... Sorry to sound like a ricer here but you cant beat the bang for the buck of the WRX's 4 wheel drive and turbo design, along with its rally inspired suspension and SUPER EASY, and available upgrades. Reminds me of MY car ;-)

Not being racist here but that reminds me of a bumpersticker I saw on a Convertible 03' Cobra's window today,,, it read QUOTE!!!!!>>>> Guns dont kill people, Minorities do.

I disagree completely with your position; as mentioned above, it is the driver that causes the problems with SUVs. However, you are entitled to your opinion. There fore no flames intended.

The SUV danger is similiar to "ricers" having the reputation for darting in and out of traffic and, generally, being a nusuance. However, blame is not put on the vehicle; it is the driver.

On a side note, I find your comment interesting in that you live in very close proximity to the Mercedes M Class assembly plant. I suppose you do see SEVERAL SUVs.:)

Well... I own both a WRX and an SVTF, so I feel particularly qualified to comment on this. :)

The WRX is an awesome car, but after driving the WRX and the SVTF back to back there are a few things that bug me about both cars.

The SVTF seats suck (surprise, it's a Ford).

The WRX steering needs some work. Not as crisp or communicative as the SVTF.

The SVTF needs boost. Decent power, but delivery could be better... not to mention that more is never enough.

The WRX tranny feels fragile and discourages crazy AWD launching.

The SVTF needs a LSD.

The WRX needs to have less understeer.

Just a rental...

I have only driven the Focus while my '03 was in the shop for a few days. The biggest impression I came away with was that while driving the Focus, especially over 65 MPH, I felt really vulnerable, like I was sitting in a tin can going over Niagra Falls. Yeah I know, how much safer are you in a 'vert? I guess the large motor and engine bay give you at least a sense of security...

I have never driven a base model Focus, so maybe it does feel cheap, but I traded in an 01 GT to get an SVT Focus... mainly because the chasis in the GT was crap. I could watch the dashboard in the GT bend going over bumps...

Well, I would imagine driving a base modle Focus then comparing it to a SVT would be like driving a base line Mustang and compairing it to a Cobra...probably worlds of difference.
The Focus I drove...I flat out did not feel safe in....most advanced chasis Ford builds or not....I would not feel safe loading the family up in that thing for a road trip if I needed to.

And as far as your dash bend....thats impressive. I've had three different Mustangs and have never had that issue....and your the first I have ever heard have that issue as well. Hate that happened.

I am exagerating a bit, but it was a convertible GT and the chasis flex was ridiculous. You could feel it bending and everything rattled on bumps. Nowhere near solid. I can't wait to see the redesign of the Mustang... If they fix the ergonomics and the chasis, I will likely go back.

Mustangs are not safe cars though... ask a fireman or EMT sometime. I'd hate to be hit in the Focus, but it is not something I really worry about and I'll take weight savings anyday over better crash tests.

Hey Doug, if you and everyone pays close "Attention" to the DUB Supercharger Pulley, Gatorback Belt, that South Florida Pulley HQ sent to ATI Motorsports, it should not take a Rocket Scientist to figure out that South Florida Pulley HQ did play an important role in the Modifications that were done to this Ford Focus Project Car.

We also, included sending Rich George the Project Manager your Billet Flow Throttle Body & Intake Plenum Adaptor, plus the NGK TR6 Sparkplugs & a Super Chip to help finish up the Project. You are correct though, they are still waiting for the driveshaft and some other little finishing touches for this car to be fully streetable. Hope this helps.

If you just didn't like the way it looks, I could understand... but less weight is always good for performance. If the 03 Cobra weighed less than 3000lbs it would be a performance giant. Probably would be in the 11's stock... how would that be bad?

I think I was probably tricked by some sort of optical illusion... small on outside / roomy on the inside... now that I think about it my sister was able to fit her two kids (10 & 11 yr olds) and a ton of luggage when she drove from SanAntonio to visit me in AZ. She has the 3 door hatchback (IMO the cool looking one)

I love the focus and its looks and I didn't mean anything negative towards it or anything bad (especially if it had the engine pictured)... I just like my Cobra better (I'm biased ofcourse).

btw... light is good. yes it is. I agree with you

Ford them selfs would never produce that car. if mas produced it might out sell the cobra for less money. like every Escort prototype they made. SVT ZX2 170 HP and 200lbs less that the focus it ran about even w/ the mustang GT for about 20k, and the ZX2 Fusion Roush made 230HP and still under 20K, they wont make it if it will be a sports model that out runs a mustang.
