So im typing this from my phone cause my 5 year old Acer computer seems to have given up. I need to pickup a replacement soon and wanted some advice. I really only use my computer for Microsoft office and some moderate video game action when im not at work. I was looking to only spend $ 500-900 but probably somewhere in the middle. From what I understand anything with 8gb ram and a dedicated graphics card should be fine. Any suggestions on a specific model or link off new egg or somewhere else appreciated.

For moderate gaming, might want to just look into an i5 with integrated graphics and skip the graphics card, go haswell or ivy bridge and 8gb 1600mhz

Use existing power supply case storage unit, and all you would need is cpu mobo and ram. would be well under 500 especially if you use the same OS

If you need the extra frames per second on gaming a 7870 radeon or gtx 660 will do what you want at 1080p resolutions

if you want newegg/amazon links to a full build i can do that too

What exactly do you need the computer to do and how much do you want to spend? Do you just need basic browsing with it capable of playing modern games at full resolutions? Is your current hard drive, power supply, and case all good? Do you have windows 7?

I recently purchased a Lenovo, my first of this brand. So far it has been great. It has the dreaded Windows 8.1, but so far that hasn't caused me any problems, either.

Yes just basic browsing with microsoft office...and capable of playing games ..nothing crazy. I dont need full resolution on the newest of games. Just something decent. I dont need a big hard drive either

I just bought my boss a Lenova laptop with Windows 8.1. The computer itself is decent (not the best, though), but it unfortunately came with Windows 8. I really gave it a shot and tried to like it, but failed. LOL. After a short tutorial for my boss, we both agreed that it would be best for him to stick with the Windows 7 style desktop.

Then you can go with pretty much any lower tier system (with decent rated reliability). Check out what is available through Costco and BJs if you're a member of either. Or Sam's. If you're very used to Windows 7, try to find a computer with the same OS. Some, like me, just don't like Windows 8.

(428$ recommended) (733$ optional)

intel's integrated graphics can handle modern games at 720p resolutions with all settings on low with acceptable framerates, if you end up needing a gpu you can always add on to the z87-k

bingo! ibuypower.com can build a pretty good gaming rig on the cheap.

oh and OP, if you want a GFX card i may have one left over you can have. IIRC it is a 550GTX NVIDIA card that still works.
