What Jeter did is not cheating and I don't have a problem with it. Players try to sell the wrong call one way or another in every sport. If a player running to 1st base is called safe on a close play but he was clearly out, which happens all the time, should he tell the ump he made the wrong call? Never seen it happen and I don't think we ever will.
