My bank won't even give a loan without insurance. Why anyone would drive a $40k truck without coverage is beyond me.

Is it even legal to drive a car with no insurance in any state? I know around here it is not, it's also not legal to drive off the lot without it, they would make you tow it.

I believe in some states there is a grace period after purchase where you are covered (by an existing policy) until you insure it. In my experience in MA, I have driven my car home from a dealer without insuring it, but have also had friends tell me the dealer would not allow them to. Both were used cars from new car dealers, so not really sure whats legal. I purchased on a weekend at a dealer 150MI from home, the paperwork was handled by the dealer for registration and insurance, but would not go into effect until the following monday. They let me drive it home.
