Today is a day that I thought would not come, but it has. Today, I sold my 2011 GT500.
If you would have asked me 6 years ago if Id have done today what I did, Id have told you that you were insane. It was a car that since 2007 was my "dream car". A shocking revelation at the time for a lifelong Chevrolet guy. When I saw the redesign in 2010, it was a car I lusted after for 5 years.
It was a car that I went drag racing with for the first time.
It was a car that I drove to the first date I had with my future wife.
I was strapping my helmet on for a terrible 1/4 pass in the car when my future wife blurted out "I love you" for the first time, after she got done helping me swap my drag tires on.
It brought my daughter and a very sore and stitched together wife home from the hospital.
But, like many things, my time as an owner has come to an end. Whats the old saying? Dont meet your hero's? I had been pessimistic about the car for a while, dejected by such a weak TR6060 transmission that needed a complete overhaul, again. There was nothing to guarantee that the upgraded parts would work long term. Then the cost of tuning went up, tuner acting like the car was theirs and refusing to tune anything short of what they told you to buy and install.
Fuel system and injectors for ethanol that cost near 4K, a blower that would cost nearly 6k with all the accessories and no guarantee that piece of shit TR6060 would make a 1-2 shift even with an overhaul. Not to mention internal engine work that next to no shop in Phoenix wanted to touch because it was aluminum....
It was a good run boys, and I made so many wonderful memories. Becoming a part of this community was daunting (you assholes are a tough crowd for a noobie haha). But the time to make a move was now, as the used market is showing small signs that the values are going down. Great sign if youre trying to buy, bad if youre on the fence selling. If I was to make a move, it was now.
Just wanted to thank all of you who helped me with the car over the years, answered stupid questions when I was a 2014 Coyote owner wishing it was a GT500, answered random PMs about pistons and factory rods and upgrade cranks and all the things that a guy who found himself owning his dream muscle car could be curious about.
I certainly plan to stick around and be a bother to you ****ers, or as long as SID or 03cobra and the rest of the admin staff will have me.
As for whats next, I got enough for the car that I can set a few grand aside for a down payment on a new family truck when new inventory normalizes, and find a nearly finish classic to turn my attention to. Whatever I can sell my Nova project for will go to the down payment as well.
Im a car guy that cant go without a fast car... so if my recent efforts come to fruition, Ill be right back where a I started 20 years ago. More to come.
Salut!
