For message and realism...
The Sand Pebbles with Steve McQueen.
The Band of Brothers HBO series.
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
All Quiet on the Western Front
Bridge Over the River Kwai

For Fun...
Anything with accurate period aircraft (Tora, The Battle of Britain, 633 Squadron, Flying Leathernecks (gun-camera stuff)) acting and plot line be damned.
Apocalypse Now (for surrealism)

For the history...a bit too Hollywood...
The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far
Patton
The Great Escape

The Old Classics...
Guadalcanal Diary
A Walk in the Sun
Battleground

Fat Man and Little Boy.

The scene with the criticality accident put chills in my spine, made me lose my breath, and made me cringe so hard and I even muttered out a "fu.......k...." through my teeth.

Ugh, just thinking of the tingling heat wave they would have felt...

Stellar cast and a great story. It's like the SWO version of Top Gun, hahaha. JO's will appreciate when the LTJG CDO gets the ship underway during the PH attack and ignores the small boat with the CO/XO trying to catch up and get back aboard.
