Not trying to argue with anyone one....however holdback is 3% of the invoice price. So on a 30k car it would be 900 not 3000. The dealer margins aren't what they used to be...

Yeah, I laughed when someone said that holdback was $3k! LOL, I love the font end profit on a base ranger....If I remeber it is like $400-$500!

That's about right and it's no better on other brands. People just need to remember we have better cars now than we ever have, it's important to remember everyone needs to make some profit. By all means get the best deal for your money, but let everyone make a little money.

O'Meara Ford - Denver Colorado's Premier Ford Dealer Since 1913

Was recently out in colorado this past week visiting family and stopped n test drove a new 2011 GT. Salesman after the test drive said they would come out starting on the price at 27k (stickered at 36k) for a Cona Blue M6 5.0 GT. I didnt think this was a bad starting price, but they did have many new 5.0's sitting on the lot too.

Also look at the GT500KR they have sitting in a seperate glass room behind the 5.0's.

Just an FYI to those who are looking to buy

 WAYYY too funny!! I live about 8 miles from that Ford STEALERSHIP!! I could've absolutely told you the "starting" price meant what he would start on a base order for you. Throwing the lowest number possible at you is stealsmanship 101. That dealership is STILL throwing $10-15k MARKET ADJUSTMENTS onto GT500's?!? WTF...they still think it's 2007. I'll give you an example: I was in the market for a GT500 last spring and they had two that had been in their showroom for over 6 months. After showing them I was a serious buyer...they "BEST" they could do for me was $5k off their market adjustment. I told them I was about to fly to LA to pick one up for invoice but wanted to give a local dealer a shot at my business, both sale and post sale (service). They wouldn't budge...ridiculous. I flew out the next day after putting a deposit on the one in LA...and won't even give O'meara my business for an oil change!!

Somebody owns or works for a dealership!! Cars being better than they ever have is subjective. Dealers are going to make their money...I won't shed a tear or a thought for that matter, over whether they're going to make a profit. Please. They're like casinos...they pay out FAR less in good deals than they take in on screwing customers. That's why the educated and experienced buyers get screwed now. Dealers sniff this out and pretty much walk you right back out the door. They don't give a crap about one customer that will get a good deal from them, when they know there are 10 suckers out there for every one of the smart ones. The dealer sympathy won't work for me or most others on here.

*NOTE: So I don't get flamed by anyone associated with dealerships...I'm not talking about 100% of dealerships. Maybe more like 90-95%. ;-)

Cars are better now...period. Do a little research, they are safer, faster, and get better fuel economy than never before. 412hp from a base mustang gt would have been unthinkable only a few years ago, we need to realize we live in the muscle car era now... As far as dealerships go I won't try to change your mind, it sounds like you had a bad experience or two, but I will suggest that if you are finding dealerships in your area that aren't willing to deal with you honestly, there are plenty of guys out there that would love to earn your buisness....

Cars being better is truly a subjective topic to me. We'll have to agree to disagree! Research doesn't change peoples opinions on something as passionate as the American love affair with cars. Just look at what people pay and the blood, sweat & tears they sacrifice for older cars. Yes...in those three categories you mentioned they are leaps and bounds "better", but that isn't all there is to cars. :D I'm on the fence with that one anyhow...I love the classics, but also the new kids on the block! AND...after test driving the 2011 GT...I dropped my jaw at the refinement and JOY of driving one. Coming from the old fox-body days of Mustangs where it was Fix Or Repair Daily...I was stunned with the base model GT!

As far as dealerships...yes, I've had a bad experience or two or TONS! I buy a new car every year, sometimes two a year (like last year). As far as there being "guys out there that would love to earn my business"...I would LOVE to hook up with some.

ONE (recent) example: I had a great experience last spring when I flew out to LA and bought a '10 GT500 out of the showroom for invoice. Salesman was awesome. I was starting to put one in the PLUS column for dealerships with some renewed faith....uhhh...NOT SO FAST. They overcharged me 1/2 percent on sales taxes (about $500). Then also got a "we owe" for a "Cobra/GT500 owners manual package". Worked with my salesman on the tax issue...which became a post-sale nightmare in where I have not received a dime in a refund like he said was coming. Shocking that I can't get a returned email or phone call. I gave up after several months. Got the owners manual in the mail. NOT a Cobra/GT500 owners manual...just had a GT500 supplemental 5 page insert in a regular manual. Letter after letter and phone call after phone call...wow what a wash...AGAIN. So much for renewing faith in a customer. Just thought I would share an ALMOST. :nonono: Oh...in case anyone is wondering...it was Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park, CA.

I actually think we agree, not disagree. I have a 1993 cobra that I love and wouldn't trade for the world, I also have a 1984 cj-7 that I restored and I thoroughly enjoy it as well, but I will tell you that a modern jeep or a modern mustang is light years ahead in performance and comfort. I'm kinda old school, but if I could afford a new cobra or gt (daughter in college) I surely would.
As far as your dealership experience goes, I think they are bordering on criminal. Keep in mind a dealership collects taxes as a courtesy when you finance, but at least in pennsylvania overcharging you in the collection of taxes constitutes bank fraud. I'm a little sensitive on the dealership because I have been running a dealership for 20 years and it is very frustrating when we all feet lumped in with the guys who could care less about their customers, before or after the sale. That said I can't really blame you for feeling the way you do after your experience. Hopefully your next one will be better

F**ck that dealership, that is all.

+10000000000

watch out very close on this, this dealership had 2 GT500's for over $70,000 when you could get the same GT500 at a different dealership for $52,000. Also this dealership that had the $70,000 GT500, a guy here in Colorado ordered that GT500, and the dealership told him to get bent they were going to keep it because they could sell it for more money.
