He's actually getting ripped on pretty hard in the diesel performance community. I enjoy his recent videos, but he needs to stick to playing with diff covers and data monitors.
I have a slight clue. Recently made 1050hp/1900tq on a stock-appearing powerstroke setup, and enjoy the approach of the latest banks duramax project doing just that too. Have been making good clean power for years, without any inter-stage intercooling on a compound turbo setup. He was commenting on a motor that was going to be used in a high-stress top-speed run, as far as he knew.
