I have read everything from 3.55 to 4.30. What are you running and why? Daily driver? Track car? Help me choose what to go with. I have a set of 3.55's from my old fox just waiting to be installed, buy I'm reading so many diffrent opinions that now I'm just not sure.

No less than 4.10s if you're going to stay n/a. I had 3.55s in my car and it didn't make a difference whatsoever from the stock 3.27s. I have 4.10s in my 96 and they are perfect. Highway driving is fine, car is at roughly 2600-2700rpm @ 70mph. You might even just wanna step up to 4.30s, I kind of wish I did.

I dont like my 4.10's for daily driving. Going to 3.73's.

Lots depends on the amount of highway driving.

I have 4:10's and I do a lot of highway driving. I had 3:73's and didn't even know I had them. I thought it was still stock. The car felt like a slug until I got the 4:10's.

I have 4.10s. people are gonna lie about highway mileage lol. I drove all highway just recently and averaged 18mpg at about,85-90mph the whole way. other than that they are fun! especially from a dig and 20 mph rolls. you gotta pay to have fun!

After my dynotune and 70mph on the highway for 2.5 hrs I got 24mpg. I have filled up a few times since then and got between 23.5 and 24.5 mpg.

The 85-90mph is why

I'd keep mine under 75 with 4.30s and got low-mid 20s

Pffff I got 30 mpg with my 2.73's... :D

OP I used to have 4.30's and thought they were too much for the type of higher speed highway driving I like to do (80-90 on the reg) Even around town it's funny because first would seem like a waste of time unless you were wanting to get moving fast. For normal acceleration I'd just use second.. not sure if you could really do that with 4.10's as easily so if you're going 4.10's you might as well get 4.30's and enjoy the quick revving action. It's just funny because you start in second and around a normal street you are in fourth or fifth so it seems like you should have a sixth.

I dunno.. I want to gear down from 4.30's and I figured 4.10's weren't that much of a difference and I hear the 3.90's whine so I have 3.73's going in soon. It probably wont be a quick revving gear but it'll at least get out of its own way, I can use first gear without having to shift halfway through an intersection, and I'll be able to keep the revs lower on the highway.

I did really enjoy the 4.30's though fwiw when I wanted to drive the car hard.

Don't bother with 3.55's. 3.73's will barely make enough of a difference so go no lower than that. 4.10's may be a good place to start I guess.

4.30's I daily drive my cobra and it's a blast around town. On the highway at 80 the rpms sit at 2850, but it doesn't bother me. Unless you plan on going FI you will be very disappointed with 3.73's, you might as well leave the stock gears in.

4.10's, why, so i can roast em on command. Sometimes i wish i'd gone 4.30's. Highway driving is fine, exhaust drone actually went down since its not sitting right a 2k anymore.

Most people are shocked when i tell em what my gears are, it's because their V8 doesn't rev to 7k..

I had 4.10's. Now I have 4.56's. I wish I could go with more gear.

So why not throw some 4.88's in there? Or get crazy with a set of 5.13's. I think 4.56's are the best gears for these cars in the 1/4 if you plan on staying all motor.

3.73's, I like to use first gear and hate shifting into 5th gear just driving around town and yes I like the mileage better than the 4.30's in my previous 98 Cobra. Not to say the deeper gears weren't fun sometimes I just got tired of them after awhile.

I just got 4.10's installed 3 weeks ago and freaking love them. I almost wish I would've done 4.30's but I just bought a blower so 4.10's are the best fit for me. However, my car is not a DD and I usually just drive it in town or on backroads. Still though, going 75 on the interstate around 2850 isn't as bad as it sounds. I for sure wouldn't do 3.55's because that wouldn't be really any difference at all from the stock 3.27's. Good luck deciding. It took me forever to decide as well.

390s would be the minimum gear i would use. I have 410s right now and i pull about 22mpg on the freeway at 70mph 2600rpms. I would just do 410s unless you plan on boosting later down the line then you should just get 373s.

LOL you guys are as bad as women. :) Ok so I don't plan on going FI, I want to keep n/a. I plan on a 150 shot of giggle juice in the future. Who is making good 390's?
They definatly are not in the motorsport book.

Motive makes a good gear. But from what ive read ford racing now uses china crap so i dont know if ill be buying gears from ford racing anymore either, it blows but 390s would be ok.

I've daily driven 4.10's and 3.90's.

4.56 - best for certain drag racing configurations
4.30 - fine on the street (and strip) if you have sticky tires. Not very good for daily interstate cruising.
4.10 - the best all-around choice (street, drag, autocross, road course) Even fine for interstate cruising to about 75 mph.
3.90 - Another good all-around choice for a big improvement even if you do a lot of interstate driving (Like my 80 mph commute)
3.73 - Not a good all around choice because you gain so little. Some guys running turbo's and such like these and even lower gears but for most of us 3.73's and lower aren't worth the time or money.

The 3.90's from Motive are more likely to require shimming than FMS gears but so what thats what your tech is getting paid to do. Done right they don't whine any more than FMS gears or the way it came from the factory.
