If I had a v8 for my 1st car id be dead no doubt about it. However, ive got a silver 2000 v6 auto with mach 460 sound, black leather, spoiler, stripe, dual exhaust, 35th aniv honeycomb grill, 45k miles for a mere 6800. :)

he will enjoy the hell out of it, but you are sentencing that poor foxbody to an early grave giving it to a 15-16 year old. i think for a first car for any kid is to give them a big old truck or boat(old buick or w/e) so they wont get hurt when they wreck and it will only be a cheap old car going to the scrap yard instead of a nice foxbody.

Don't worry about buying a fast car for him. He won't know the difference. If you buy him something rediculously ugly/big/slow. He'll be aching to steal your car one night. hehehehe. Anywayz, those types of vehicles would just be depreciating the value of your home, and the neighborhood. j/k

I know that I argued with my dad till I was blue in the face but now I know I had no business owning a fast car in highschool. And I definitely did not have fast car in highschool. Anyone know what a Dodge Aries looks like?:nonono: bad deal but I am still alive

He'll love it, and don't worry about him in it. I had an 85' GT that ran low 13's for my first car. My parents told me they would match any money I saved, boy were they suprised:coolman: And I have a clear driving record to date (KNOCK ON WOOD), but that doesn't mean I shouldn't. If your son loves the car which I imagine he does, he will take care of it to all ends. Besides you've got to get them before their friends fill their heads with evil visions of Hondas and other imports.

I hear ya but you are thinking like an adult not like a hghschool kid.We all know we were a little dumber behind the wheel and a mustang just isn't as forgiving when you drive it beyond your abilities as perhaps an escort is. Those pesky mustangs have a way of kickin you in the ass when you aren't ready for it. Chances are he would be O.K. but like I said in highschool we all thought we were the man behind the wheel

From experience I will say: The boy will destroy the first car he gets and second, even at 28...I probably wasn't smart enough to own a 300 horsepower car. How do you feel about him top ending it? Chances are good within a week he will. IMO, an ass heavy 250 hp ride isn't a good idea for any teenager. If he gets that ride, he will be surrounded by large groups of testosterone driven teenagers wanting to know, "How fast is it?", "You ever race it?". It would have to be a tremendously responsible young man to deal with something like that. On another note, it does look like a great deal...it looks like one hell of a starting off point to a great drag car.

its a good deal, but coming from an 18 year old like myself, i dont know, i can control myself but there are a lot of others who can't. i baby my car....i pay for it also, so i guess that makes it diff.....im glad my parents didnt let me buy it when i was back in high school just cus they were probably right.....just make the right decision in choosing, personally i wouldnt let my future son drive a fast stang at all, too high risk

My first car was a foxbody w/ a 2.3l. I thought it was pretty quick and it still got me into trouble. If I had a 5.0 when I was 16 I would be dead. I'm 23 and still don't trust myself, but I'm much better than when I was a teenager.

i think the overwhelming response is NO. But it is a good deal for someone else, someone older and a more responsible driver.

Cool car! Personally, I don't see anything wrong with a V8 as a first car... I bought my first, a '91 GT with the help of my parents about 3 weeks before my 16th birthday. I'm 23 now and never had a speeding ticket. My parents told me if I got a ticket that the car would be sold and I would no longer be allowed on their insurance and I understood that and followed the rules..

I could get myself into trouble with my straight 6 F150 at age 17, so I'd have to say no to this Mustang for a first car. Oh, and to give you a quick idea what else a 16 or 17 year might try: If I borrowed dads truck (91 F150 I6), I would do burnouts with it and the same with moms 93 Crown Vic. Heck, I had the Crown up to 95 mph one day when no one was with me! These aren't performance cars, and I still **could** have gotten into big trouble. Thankfully, I never did in their vehicles. However, a couple years ago I got a ticket for wreckless driving for doing donuts in my Ranger. Now, a couple years older, (and a Mustang with high insurance to begin with) I save it for the track! Going fast on the road isn't the smart thing to do, but not all teenagers think like this. Think long & hard before letting a young person have a vehicle like this. Good luck!

lol one little thing i forgot to mention... my son has been driving 4 wheelers, dirtbikes, ne thing with wheels and a motor sence he was 5... and im not sayin that it will make him better, but also when we go to iowa he drives my HD and is very responsible, and remember when 15 he could only drive with and adult in the car, so he would have somtype of responsiblity for the 1st year, i LOVE the car and so does he... but what do you guyz think about the insurance thing he is talkin about? is that legal orr... would they find out?

Kids drive differently when there's no one else in the car. And I would've loved to have a car like that as my first car, but hey, it's better that I don't. Honestly, you should get him some commuter car, see how he takes care of it, and then decide for him to get a Stang like that. Let us know what you decide, but I'd say go for something like my parents got me. And I love my car, so much room, which is a plus for a college student. It's a slow-ass POS, but I'm not gonna go wiping myself out on a road somehwere.

Count that as another vote for: don't give it to him. It's for his own good, trust me.

the thing is tho he treats things that are nicer with better care, i think if i got him a POS he would treat it like the piece of Shi* it is... but if he new he had a nice car, i think he would wanna treat the car nice and wouldnt wanna get that taken away, and he has alwayz been into nice things, i know he is gonna wanna show off, but he will know when to stop and when is the right time... like when were down in iowa and theres not cops... thats the time to do the dounut... but we are still talkin about it, he still has another 6 months before hes 15... so we have a while...

hey whats wrong with a fast car in high school? hehe.... im in high school and it really depends how responsible he is. i baby the crap outta my truck because i pay for it. if you force some responsiblity upon him like insurance or car payments or maintaince i think he'll take car of it.
and insurance for a 16 is not cheap any way you look at it.
good luck!

Well youve had some good responses. Some from experience, some from immaturity. I would go with dont get a kid a hp car for a first car.
Why do I say that? We were all there once, some of us were luckier than others. I never had anything serious happen, but then again I know quite a few young people that died in cars, more than I can count that totaled their cars. Lets not forget that old saying "Oh that'll never happen to me". Shit happens. Remember about peer pressure? Somebody mentioned it here. A 16 year old getting a display of speed or drag racing tix will be ungodly expensive.
I am going thru the same scene right now. I bought my 16 yo son a 64 Ranchero. It has a 260/3 speed. It is fairly slow, especially with the gear throw and rear end gears. But it has dual flows and he thinks it is the greatest thing. So I would recommend something that has more bark than bite, that will satisfy his ego.
Oh, I also used to drive professionally. logged well over a million miles and seen it all. Inexperienced teens are dangerous on the road, although no fault of their own. They just dont have the experience. Good luck and hope you dont loose any hair over your teen driving.

ok, i am only 18 but in my sig, the mustang was originally mine... we built it when i was 15, stock block bored .30 over, a very nice hydraulic cam and etc and new heads intake and new f-brl. carb... but insurance was too much... so i myself bought a 87 bronco, and put a lift on it, it is slow on the street, but it will shit and get on the mud...

what i am saying is i personally think that if you can instill values and ethics on how to treat and upkeep the car and lay down ground rules: i.e., he gets a ticket take the car or if he just so happens to wreck it, make him pay for damages and etc.

He is your son and nobody knows him better than you...

but i say let him have the car and just lay down some rules, or teach him how to handle the power...

good luck w/ everything... btw clean car

well comming from a 20 yr old that had a 79 vette at the age of 16 i would let him have it and just keep an eye on him. my parent could here me a long ways away when i got on it and they would take it away for a week or so. also just watch the tread wear, you will know if he is doing something wrong when the front tires have alot of tread and the back tires do not. i dont want to worry you but i wrecked the shit out of my vette and it was a life changing expierence that taught me to respect the car. i recomend you get it, just teach him to respect it. he could wreck anything you get him so.
