SPOILER ALERT:
The ending was sad to me. As they run into the bunker you see the comet strike Europe and all it's history is completely wiped out. Even mountain ranges would be wiped out.
Here is a comparison of the impact with a Google Earth view of Greenland and Europe above it. I am guessing the impact crater of this movie comet would be over 1000 km / 621 miles in diameter. Compare that with the 150 km / 93 miles Chicxulub crater that wiped out the dinosaurs!
I don't think the underground bunker in Greenland would have saved them. There would be massive earthquakes. I doubt humanity or any animal of significant size would survive such an impact. In the aftermath they show the remains of the Eiffel Tower. There would be nothing left in Europe but a huge crater and molten rock. Everything man made would have vaporized.
France and Spain are literally peeled off and flying into space!
