Finally !! My first gun that I own in my life... S&W MP2 9mm ... Will go on the range to try it out soon. Yes I have shot 9mm in the past, but that was like 20 years ago...

Here it is. Just need to go out and buy ammunition. I have huge respect for guns, so I didn't buy ammunition yet, as the kids were with me. Will go and do that next week, when I am on my own.

Congrats! Great looking pistol. You're going to be very happy. I'm glad to see you have a healthy respect for firearms. It will help keep accidents from happening.

If I may be so bold as to offer a few pointers....

1.) The gun is always loaded.
2.) Don't point the weapon at anyone or anything that you don't want to totally destroy.
3.) Always keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4.) Always be aware of your target and what is beyond.
5.) Get Training ASAP.
6.) Get Training ASAP.
7.) Get Training ASAP.

Yes, I remember 1-4... That's exactly how I learned to treat it. 5-7 will happen soon ...

I'm surprised the shop didn't tell you about the S&W $75 dollar rebate on the 9mm/40 M&P shield, $50 on the 380 bodyguard and $25 on the SD9VE til the end of June? I got both the SD9 and 9mm shield at excellent prices. I shot em for the first time this past thursday. The full size 9 needs grips bad, the back strap's rough texture is a bit extreme. Time for textured rubber.

Look for the 100 round Federal Champion brass value boxes at Walmart for the gun range (under $20) and some higher grain for personal home defense like the Hornady. Also school yourself on how to break the gun down for cleaning as well as proper grip, stance and aim. Have fun and feel very secure with your purchase, it's your right as a citizen of this country dating back centuries.

Those were the first things I did when I bought my S&W 9mm Shield. It gets broken down for cleaning after every trip to the range, and I go at least once a month. A friend of mine is a local police officer (their pistol instructor) and he helped me establish a good grip and stance when firing. But practice, and lots of it, are key.

Also look into local training classes for self-defense and tactical training. We all hope we'll never have to use our guns, but not being properly prepared becomes a big liability. I mean, the peace of mind we get when we're carrying is big time, big it has to go further to ensure that we can properly respond in an emergency situation.

Enjoy your M&P. I love my Shield!

I ****ing hate Walmart. But I may have to go there to get some of that ammo.
And I'm a dumbass. Looked up the Federal Champion on Ammo Seek and saw the Walmart deal was comparable. Went and bought 200 rounds. What I failed to do was ensure that the Wally World deal was brass cased.

What initially was a savings of $5 is now going to cost me $12 due to the fact I bought aluminum cased ammo and my range only allows brass.

Walmart has brass Federal Champion too. The aluminum cased has it clearly written on the box and they only stock it in 50 round boxes. The 100 round value packs ARE BRASS! It's not written on the box but they are. Have you opened them to see there aluminum? And a range that only allows brass? I can maybe see not allowing steel like Tulammo. Is there another range you could drive to if that ammo is indeed aluminum?

Are you in the RVA area, and if so, did you purchase locally? I am trying to get my hands on an FDE 17 to complete the collection on SCARs, and they are difficult to find around M'Ville and RVA. Sub-$2800 for the purchase?

They are aluminum and the 100 round boxes. I was looking at the 50 round brass boxes when the clerk said I would save by getting the 100. I didn't pay attention (obviously) to the fact that the box clearly said aluminum on it. As far as the range is concerned; there is one I can go to, I just don't like it.
