Hey all,

I have seen alot of questions on tire sizes on the factory SVTPP 20" wheels, including myself wanting to know.

Today I had the 305/35-20 Nitto 555r's installed on mine. Of COURSE, it was raining today, so I didn't get to test them out, but as far as rain performance, I can say they didn't feel any different to me on the way home than any other tire. I'm sure once they get worn, that will be a different story.

I took a few pictures, but for some reason they came out blurry and I didn't want to stand in the rain too long. So the next nice sunny day, I will take some good resolution pictures to replace the ones I am posting.

Overall, there is some sidewall bulge, but I would not say it is too much. I tried to order these from my local Discount Tire, but they would not even install them because their "system" says the 9.5" rims would be unsafe. But they didn't have any problems trying to sell my some Michelin Pilots

The car has OEM springs/shocks, and there seems to be no clearance issues so far. I plan on looking at it better when I have it dyno tuned next week to see if FRPP springs will cause issues.

Soo, I went to a local tire/custom wheel/stereo shop and had them do the order and install.

Here are some pics:

Awesome timing for this post! This is my next mod and I'm dying to hear what people think of these exact size Nitto's...especially mounted on the stock SVT wheels. They don't look like they bulge too bad (although some would argue, and rightfully so, that they shouldn't bulge at all). How is the height compared to the stock 285's and did it throw your speedometer off at all?

I'm really curious how the handling is compared to stock and if your traction improves that much.

Imagine if Ford would've put an 11" wheel on these cars how it would've given us so many more options for tires and sizes.

The Nittos are 28.56" tall compared to the stock F1's at 27.89?" so it will throw the speedo off a little (3-4mph) but can easily be fixed with your SCT.

I am not sure of height difference of speedometer difference right now. I pretty much drove straight home from the shop. I do have the stock tires and as soon as I get a chance, I'll measure the height difference. Overtime tomorrow and friday.. might not be able to do it until this weekend. I would think the difference is less than an inch.. if at all.. the only difference should be the width.

Edit: I stored the tires at another location.. or I would check the difference now.

Interesting... I would think less than 1" wouldn't make much of a difference at all... pretty much the difference between a brand new tire, and a worn out one.

The roads dried up a little tonight.. went for a short drive. According to the in car outside temp gauge temp is at 53 degrees. 1st gear still spun the tires.. 2nd gear.. no more spin... :) fun fun... hit 3rd hard... no spin... more fun fun fun :) I think I am going to love these tires

I run these on my SVTPP 20" wheels and would not even think about life with out them. I never drive my car in inclement weather so the the dry traction for me allows me to enjoy the torque of my Shelby with out much traction loss. These 555R's also love to be hot and when they are heated, will not disappoint. Nice pick up!

Wouldn't hurt to widen to wheel to the minimum width specified by Nitto. I don't think you'll get the full benefit of the contact patch using a rim that's too narrow.

That is a possible future plan. I went with the current setup as a quick fix to a very irritating problem :) Will possibly go to 11.5 width or so in the future, and look at 315 or larger if clearance isn't an issue.

Went for another spin a little bit ago...:pepper::rockon: Did some 1st gear takeoffs.. little spin.. hooks, then 2nd on.. fun fun. Do not like the OEM shifter though.. notchy.. and actually ground 2nd once.. took me about .5 sec or so to do shifts the way the shift felt... that will be fixed next week when my MGW is installed with my go fast goodies though. :dancenana:

I'm running the same 305-35-20's on stock SVTPP wheels. No rubbing, and they look and work great. Also running FRPP K springs.

The only drawback i can see so far is how many miles they will last. Time will answer that I guess

How do you like them?

they hook great on the street once they were warm barely any wheel spin in first. got caught in the rain a few times but i was in the city so speeds were low and didnt have any issues just tiptoe on the go pedal. havent got to many miles on them yet to see the wear maybe 1k on them so far
