***Important Note - August 14, 2004***
For ease of editing on my part, I would like to ONLY update the table on my website. It is better formatted and easier to read, and I won't have to constantly update both tables. The table below is not up to date. Thanks for your understanding. I hope the moderators understand, too. So please follow the link below from here on.

http://www.cobrabob.com/BeltSelectionGuide.htm

This belt selection table should be used as a tool for belt recommendation. Be sure to verify that the size on the table is the correct one for your application. I will keep this table up to date and add any reference notes as far as belt size overlaps, etc. In the near future I will add others combos that include lower pullies and various idler set combos. You can help by emailing/PMing me any corrections and new numbers. I cannot do this alone. The more you cooperate and provide input the more accurate the table will be. THANKS!

Gatorback Functional Part Number Breakdown
4 08 074 5

1st digit (4) represents a K section Poly-V belt.
2nd and 3rd digits give the number of ribs.
4th, 5th and 6th digits are the length in inches.
7th digit is tenth of an inch.
Part number 4080745 would be a K section Poly-V belt, eight ribs wide, with a length of 74 and 5/10 inches.

Please be sure to verify with your belt vendor that the application size indicated in the table is correct. Also note that in some cases two belts of different sizes may work equally as well. So choose your belt carefully.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TABLE BELOW IS NOT UP TO DATE. FOLLOW THE LINK ABOVE TO MY WEBSITE.

I use the RR 2.95 pulley. I guess that is close enough to the 2.93. I use a gates green striped K080740. No idler's used and stock billet idlers. The tensioner is dead center and it is a perfect fit.

What about the 2.75 with 1 idler. I use a Gates K080740 and its a bit tight I believe. Gonna try out a 74.5" belt real soon.

I would like to ultimately create a table that covers all the options. If anyone is running one idler please post any info you can provide and I'll add it to the table at the end.

Only suggestion i have would be, if you can. Make another part for people that only buy one idler. If that changes the belt size from a 3 piece. Unless i am wrong

I agree. Okay, I'll do it now. It will take a couple of minutes.

Okay. It's done. I will update the table as people provide information. And I'll keep this thread towards the top until the table is complete or near complete. I think it will be a big help.

2.76" upper with 3-100mm idlers and 1-92mm idler = 74.5" belt.
3.10" upper with 3-100mm idlers and 1-92mm idler = 75.0" belt.

Good info!

3.10" upper with 3-90mm idlers = 75.0" (stock) belt
--->Gatorback part # 4080750

Remember also, most idler kits are available in either 100mm or 90mm sizes and this can influence belt size. The larger the diameter the idler, the larger the belt one may have to use. The two stock idlers most people replace with the three idler kit are 90mm. I chose to add the 90mm "belt wrap" idler. Most people running 2.93 pullies and lower choose to run the 100mm "belt wrap" idler.

Bob,
Is there anyway you can add upper and lower pulley combos to this setup because alot of board members are always asking about belt sizes with upper lower combos. Great idea by the way!!

CobraBob,
I measured the stock Motorcraft belt against a Gatorback 4080750 and they are the same size. I used the stock belt with a 3.4 pulley.

A 3.1 with a 3 piece BF idler set also uses the stock Motorcraft belt. I'll bet a beer that I can also use the stock belt with a 2.93 and 3 piece BF idler set.

These tables will be a great help to this community.

Thanks.

2.80 No Slip upper from Terry a Southern Flordia Pulley Performance HQ, 4lb Metco Lower Pulley, 100mm billetflow upper idler:

Gates/Napa 80774 (actual size, 77 7/8), and this is halfway on the tensioner.

SNKBITE,
Thanks for the info!! I agree the 2.93 upper with a 4 pound lower is a sweet combo the only thing i did different is i added the Metco 3.5 alternator pulley to mine which now requires the 080797 belt.

This is a great idea CobraBob

Myself and I'm sure many others that doesn't have a pulley/or combo will use this info. It would also be nice if some of the site sponsors chime in since most of them sell the pullies and belt. I myself will be trying a 2.8 no idler set up with gatorback 740. Thanks again.
