i also disagree with them confiscating personal property to re-purpose or destroy. how about a court order that they get rid of it?

Not much punishment in making them get rid of the vehicles and profiting from it. Seize it, crush it or re-purpose it....much more effective.

Street racing is ridiculous. Sure, its an adrenaline rush, but too much crap can go wrong and unfortunately things like this are what happen! Youre in the middle of no where and its just you two, fine go at it hope you dont die. But on a tiny street surrounded by on lookers? Bruh....

Also, I find no "alure" in watching big power cars set up for racing try and run no prep. All that power and they cant put it down, damn near wrecking much less the unpredictable nature of the track. Stupid way to tear up good cars.

Not sure this was posted yet or not. They were officially sentenced.

The driver of a souped-up Mustang that went out of control and killed two spectators during an illegal street race in Los Angeles has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison.

Forty-three-year-old Karen Balyan was sentenced Monday after pleading no contest last month to vehicular manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. He also acknowledged fleeing the scene of the Feb. 26 crash in Chatsworth.

Authorities say seconds after the race began, Balyan’s car slammed into a curb and hit three people.

Twenty-six-year-old Eric Siguenza and 50-year-old Wilson Thomas Wong were killed. A third man was seriously injured.

The other driver, Israel Valenzuela, was sentenced to one year in jail for vehicular manslaughter.

A third man, Henry Gevorgyan, also was sentenced to a year in jail for vehicular manslaughter.

Probably would have gotten less time had he not ran and faced what he did like a man. It's a shame to see so many lives ruined.

Sad that 12 years was the max for someone killing multiple people and then taking off...

2 people are no longer alive today because of him and he takes off like a complete coward, yet only gets 12 years? Considering it's California too, he'll probably be out in 5 on early parole due to prison overcrowding.

Devils Advocate, how are they any more innocent than say someone shot at a crack house. It was a very illegal activity. You know the inherent dangers in place. Not saying it isn't shitty they lost there lives and the coward ran.

and if they were allowed to sell it, theyd sell it to a friend who would in turn sell it right back to them in short order.

Id pretty much agree to this, the people that got hit weren't just strolling down the sidewalk to grab a burger or something. They came out to something they knew wasnt legal and chose to stand out in front of vehicles they knew would be racing with no barrier between them.
