Why is it just the buyer that gets punched in the face for not being a man of his word? Why aren't you cracking the seller for changing the deal?
Or rather, trying to resurrect a deal that he rejected.
Seller offers car for $40K. OP makes a counteroffer of $36K, which is refused. When the seller refused the $36K counteroffer the deal is dead. End of story. When the seller then tried to re-up the $36K, the seller made a *new* offer to the OP - who had every right to say no, think about it, whatever. Basic contract principles.
Just because the seller had second thoughts about the $36K doesn't mean OP was obligated to do a damn thing.
