Plane is an ERJ-145 XR. We departed Huntsville, AL to the west through a gap between lines of storms rolling through. The line of storms was nearly solid all the way to Houston. Made for a nice light show off the left side!

Shot with my Sony NEX 5N @ 6400 ISO, 1/3 sec shutter and f3.5.

Yeah we (Air Traffic Control) were getting EDTC updates all night from that storm. Great pictures thanks for posting.

I got to witness something like that in person during one of my flights to Vegas, it was AWESOME! I don't know what altitude we were originally flying at, but the captain came on the radio and said there was a big storm and that we were going to go higher to fly over it. I was looking out my window as the plane started going up (and we went up pretty steeply it felt like) and I saw HUGE clouds that were still higher than us, and saw hundreds of flashes, and the clouds just lighting up. Once we were finally over the clouds, that's when the real show was, it was amazing, I'll never forget that. Whenever I fly, I ALWAYS hope I get to see something like that again so I can record it.

Great pictures OP, thanks for sharing!

I had the joy of flying through severe thunderstorms in the middle of the night on my way to Austin from SF. The Texas locals on the flight couldn't have been bothered, but a California native like myself rarely gets to see big thunderstorms so I was glued to the window. A truly amazing experience and one I won't forget soon.
