Removing the Super Snake identifiers has been my priority since day 1 of ownership but had to come up with something that was more correct and in line with what the car is.
Rocker Stripe and Removal of SS Script lettering
Reached out to Tousley and ordered a Matte Black OEM GT500 side stripe for both the left and right side. The ONLY thing I needed was the GT500 but you gotta order the whole damn rocker stripe.
Here's what I discovered.
The matte black on OEM is not matte. It's more of a semi-gloss black compared to the matte SS stripes. (See pic with protective clear removed from face of stripe)
Two Options, (1)remove the whole rocker stripe or, (2) keep the top and bottom pin stripe remove center script lettering up front and replace with a matching matte black solid piece.
I picked #2 and honestly, no one, that I know, even noticed until I pointed it out. I attribute this to the black being dark against the darker shade of red. So at a glance, it just flows and doesn't stick out like maybe a WHITE stripe would against DEEP IMPACT BLUE. <--significant difference in contrasting colors.
Wing Badges
I honestly didn't know what to expect here. Using a fishing line, and a heat gun, I removed the SS wing badge on each side. Not to bad, no paint came up with the badge removal.
Since I had removed the lower rocker panel identifier, I wanted to retain the SHELBY/GT500 wing. (thanks to the over branding of all GT500's and Super Snakes, this worked in my favor)
Not sure, why the original owner didn't just follow the contours of the snake body to place and stick the wing badges? But I did not want to remove and replace 4 right now. The SS badge was my main concern.
My car is making more than the stock 662, I wanted to just take a "sand bag" approach. I will probably maintain my 662HP regardless of w/e power level I am at later.
I'll see if BPS can make me a SHELBY/GT500 custom wing in their black edition and than get a matching 662 black edition wing. I am not sure that they will be able to.
I have heard, not confirmed, that the SHELBY/GT500 wing badge is actually protected by Shelby American?
Another reason I did not want to remove it, due to it being unique vs the standard 5.8 Supercharged offered by BPS.
Maybe I am way overthinking it, waiting for the peanut gallery and comments on the wing badge thing. lol
I accomplished what I set out to do last weekend......
No one asks me anymore how much power I'm making and ....
I don't have to hear the, "Oh, shit that's a Super Snake" comments.
