Mystichromes used in testing ?

Rumor has it that a great number of tested cars that showed 'abnormally high power and performance' were given the Mystichrome tag. They tested a lot of cars and were very selective about the color choice.

If you bought your Mystichrome brand new, how many miles did it have on it? If it had between 38 and 88 miles on the odometer, chances are it was a tested car.

Anyone know the lowest to highest power rated 04 Cobra color schemes from the factory? Like I said, it was a rumor that was floated around a few years back.

When i bought my mystichrome it wasnt pullied and dyno'd at 439hp and 396tq... that was with an exhaust and intake and tune im the 2nd owner and thats all the mods it had when i bought it... so i think it is very possible

Not sure of the mystichrome number but it is cobra #961 of 3768 and it was built on 12/22/03. Thank you ford for saving $ on the paint and not painting my doors either.

Mine was a test car I have the SVT test slip, but I do not have the sticker from the window that showed the mileage they put on the car while it was tested.

I don't know about that either BUT, my car dyno'd at 394 rwhp not warmed up and then 396.2rwhp/382.1rwtq, after the engine was up to operating temp. This is COMPLETELY STOCK. Even the air filter in. Yes it was a 60 - 65 degree day but that was it. People have called me everything but a striped eyed snake after I posted that. Told me to get me head out of my butt and all. Just quoting what I have a dyno sheet for. What was wild though, the guy who hosted the dyno at the show and a couple of others, had just had their cars dyno'd either a day or up to a week before and they were all spot on or only a couple of horsepower off. And the dyno's they used were in places like Lexington KY and Cincinnati getting their cars professionally tuned.

Rumor or not this is completely ridiculous.:bs:

To suggest that Ford tested cars unpainted, picked the highest powered ones, set them aside as they came off the line unpainted, which does not happen.
Then painted them after the fact in Mystichrome????

Who came up with preposterous "rumour" any way?
Where/who did you hear this from?
Or is this supposed to be some kind of joke?:dw:

Mine had 56 miles delivered. Stock numbers were low, 365 HP/355 TQ and pig rich A/F @ 10.8.

On a side note, test cars came with a slip stating so (like mine did) and nowhere near 88 miles lol.

Almost twins! Mine is number #353 born on 12/23/03 Oh and it is 1061 of 3768 coupes

Have you thought about this?
Was this your idea after all or someone else's?
Ever see any shots of production cars out driving with just primer on them?
The bodies are painted before the engine goes in, changing the production sequence would be ridiculously expensive, as would dyno testing and saving the highest powered engines.

Dude seriously, it didn't happen.

I know they will store up to 400 painted "Bucks" in a large building and pull them as needed for production. There was probably a slight delay when the option package first went into production that casued the issue with the wide date range.

Mystichrome: 273 of 1010

interesting that they made at least 30 of these on the 22. In keeping with the earlier comments I have no clue if my doors are painted on the bottom or not.

What would you do if you were the President or CEO of Ford and were developing a high performance car back in the day? You would have a few 'special' cars with a setup that was slightly different than the rest of them and paint it in a way that showed it.

Of course it would not be released as public knowledge but some people would recognize this. Do you think that all Corvettes and Cobras were built the same... or are there a few of them that have a 'little extra".

This is why they have different models of each car... It doesn't stop with just a fundamental Mustang.. There is the mustang GT, the Cobra, the 6 cylinder and this goes on...

These sub categories have sub categories particularly when it comes to performance cars. This is why they race cars and support the drag racing and Indy style racing events. The hundred different models that exist from the car in the showroom and the one at the Pomona Finals include all contingencies.

Naive I am not, uninformed either. There are Cobras that have that 'extra" and they have been painted or marked as special. The worst performing car is going to get the special color? I don't think so. The opposite would be true.

You would give a special color only to the highest quality and strongest cars when it comes to performance vehicles. Or am I wrong?

Maybe its Orange..... Maybe its Mystichrome. Maybe it's not.
