That looked like a bubba rope or comparable.
It’s an elastic tow rope and you really do just hammer down. I’ve pulled out many trucks buried in sand to the frame without issue.
Now, I haven’t tried one stuck in muck like that before.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered one for work and some soft shackles. I used regular lifting slings and shackles last time I had to pull someone out and it messed up the slings. I was pulling a 18k pound 550 out of the mud uphill with a awd Freightliner M2. Had to do a tug and those slings did not like that.. but I got him out!
