My dad had a '70 Olds with a 455. 500lb-ft of torque was no joke! I'll never forget the feeling of being pushed back into the seat from the acceleration and the sound of the 4 barrel carb when the secondaries opened!

They were terrors on the street back in the day. I had a '70 Road Runner (335hp and 425tq) and it ran well on the street. But.....I would not have looked forward to racing a GSX Stage 1. For sure those 455s backed up the boy-racer exteriors.

A quote from Hagerty.com. "Originally handed to Motor Trend magazine for testing ahead of its January 1970 issue, this four-speed, Stage 1-equipped car ultimately ran a 13.38-second quarter-mile ET at 105.5 mph. It also managed to lay down a 5.5-second 0–60 while keeping the 510 lb-ft torque in check. When all was said and done, Motor Trend dubbed the Stage 1-equipped GS the fastest muscle car it ever tested. And at the time, few cars were capable of beating those numbers."

My personal favorite paint color.

My dad was an original owner of a Saturn yellow 1970 Stage 1 GSX. I got to cruise it around in the summers when I was a teenager. He ended up having to sell it during my parents divorce.

Don’t have many pictures of it, my sister has a bunch that need to be scanned.

This reminds me of one of my favorite burnout vids...
I know its just a basic '70 Skylark...but burning through the first 3 gears with cammed 455 4sp has to make ya smile!

Is that his shoebox as well? Looks like it's right out of Two-Lane Blacktop. :)

Project X was in quite a few movies from 2 lane, Hollywood nights, and American graffiti. It was a legit 10 second car back in those days.

My uncle Al had a Saturn Yellow Stage 1 and an Apollo White GSX, he also had a few GN's and built a 32 Ford with a 455.

BTW I love Two Lane Blacktop.

2 lane blacktop is a must watch for anyone who drag races. I'm sure it would be "boring" to those used to crazy CGI and fake everything, but I like it.

Oh man, yes the GSX is sweet for sure, but that 55 post with the cut rear fenders is the one. I want one so bad. Doesn't have to be a gasser front end, but I love the look with the cut fender, flat black, etc with a modern power train and custom chassis

I have a real 70 stage1 buick that is aqua mist with white interior and white top. Very cool car and it runs pretty good for what it is. Still has a buick 455 and sounds amazing. It has only been to the track a handful of times with a best of 11.42 at around 118. I truly love these cars!!
