Had the alternator go out on my 2007 gt500 and was planning to get the Nations 270XP High Output Alternator. I am currently trying to figure out everything needed for the install.

Does anyone know of a cable kit that includes all needed cables and fuses that are of the correct length and gauge for the GT500?

Was hoping someone sold a direct bolt in kit to take the guess work out of it.

I upgraded to the nations alternator after 3 stock alts failed.
I had an audio shop make my cables with the measurements i gave them. Everything came out great and get a solid 14.7 volts at idle.

The cables come with the Nations alternator.

They did not come with mine. You had to add your own additional ground and power to the distribution box.. also on mine i kept the original power line from the alt to the box and added a bigger 1 too.

Well now that I think about it, it was not part of the purchase price. I bought their kit the wires, fuses, etc.

Talked to Nations and they said their cable kit upgrade (for an additional cost) includes everything. Inline fuse, cables cut to proper length with terminals.

Also J2 Fabrication offers a cable kit that is a direct bolt in.

Hey if that works go with the direct bolt on.

Can't go wrong with nations. Even put a Nations HD on my truck as the stock alt went bad at 50k miles. Both are working flawlessly. Auto parts stores have remanufactured garbage, and OEM is slightly better.

And the people at Nations are the best. I called to suggest they add a foot of length to the positive cable on GT500's, and got transferred to the owner. He was very appreciative of the suggestion.

Received everything from Nations today. No instructions were included on how to run the upgraded cables.

Based on what they included in the cable kit I assume a cable from the alternator post to the positive battery post with the inline fuse and the other cable will go from a alternator mounting bolt to the negative battery post?

How did you all end up running the cables?

You run the cables along the OEM cable route. Good luck, changing the alternator is a suck ass job.

Call Nations. I ran only the power wire to the positive. The other wire, I THINK, you can ground to the frame. But I recall them telling me it wasn't really necessary.

I've had mine on for three years now... not a single hiccup.

Yes you will need to run a ground from the alternator to the frame that is what i did, along with keeping the factory power wire from the alt to the box and adding the bigger power from alt to the box. Originally i added another power wire from the box to the battery and another ground from the battery to the car body. But was told later i did not need the extra ground from the battery or power from the box to battery.

    Was this on a 07-09 GT500?

Thanks for the replies. Did you all use a inline fuse on the power cable?

No i did not use an inline fuse, they only told me i need to use 1/0 gauge wiring for that Alternator.

I believe I have the fuse. I have whatever cable they sent/recommended. I just did a PA performance in my Fox so I might be mistaken about the fuse.

    Too many alternators :)

I went to an upgraded alternator but also installed the Billet Pro Shop underdrive pulley which helps with longevity as well. No issues on charging since it is so nominal. Keeps the alt from over spinning. Hit them up, they can give you more info.

The nation's alternator use a clutch style pulley to prevent from over revving. PA alts need the different alt pulley to prevent from over spinning

Did you guys have any issues with the alternator aligning with the bracket?

The bottom bolt and the back top bolt go in and thread with no issues but the top bolt towards the front of the car binds a little because the angle is off slightly. You can see in the pic the alternator case does not sit flush with the bracket. As I start to snug that bolt the alternator no longer spins freely.

Only thing I can think of is grinding off part of the case so it sits flush. Do you guys have any better ideas?
