I dont get this wait and see attitude some of you have. Hell we should have done something years and years ago about this. Our gov't has known about N. Koreas plans for a long time.
Were you ever in the military? Granted i was only in the air force, and lets be honest, we all know the AF doesnt get much front line action. But i was in S. Korea for 9 months and we got several updates about N. Korea... dont let thier size fool you... it wouldnt be pretty.

IMO if they do shoot one at us it wont make it here. Id say its gets shot down over the Atlantic.

If we shoot it down over the Atlantic N. Korea either fired the missle the other way around the world or they missed us completly.

Then in retaliation we should make it a crater. They cant shoot down our stuff.

Good idea :kaboom:

IF N. Korea attacks us, successful or not, i am NOT saying we shouldn't attack and defend ourselves. But how many of our troops are currently in Iraq, its not like we can just drop what we are doing and hop over to N. Korea.

We are in no position to dictate to North Korea how and when they should build their weapons. Every country has a right to defend themselves against foreign invaders. Until all other superpowers completely remove their nukes, it's going to be a hard sell to any dictator, president, chancellor, or government.

We didn't blink an eye when India and Pakistan did the same thing, and they're at war with each other.

When I was in Kuwait (back when we first entered Iraq) we had 21 confirmed attacks on our base. Our patriot missile defense system took out every single missile/scud/what ever they were... I must have a little more confidence in our defenses

How long will it take that nuke to fly from N. Korea to our west coast. How many boats or subs do you think are in the Pacific Ocean. How many units do we have stationed in S. Korea ready for this? Even if it made it past all of that, we don’t have any thing land based in Alaska or the CONUS west coast to take it out?

I really hope nothing comes about this, this could potentially turn into WWIII.
 I was thinking this same thing!!

LMAO!!! That's great! I started cracking up once I read that! That would be hillarious if they would actually launch the nuke and try to get it to go ALL around the world just to hit us... HAHA.

 You are entitled to your opinion but i still say that we are not handling our own affairs, how are you going to handle someone else's.? If you check history including modern events we usually dictate our beliefs and rules not considering how it effects people who live in these places. This is not a :burn: to you just a observation.

Let me rephase so that I can make things a little more clear. WE have nukes for "self defense". WE invade other countries regardless of the intent. WE attack. And WE have been doing so since the Korean "conflict".

I see a large flaw in your logic that North Korea would ever use large yield nukes against South Korea. Perhaps a nice map will put things into a perspective:

kpartition.gif

Let me add some more information, the reason for the separation in the first place and why they've been at war:

The Korean War
Kim did not accept the division of Korea into two states. The consolidation of Syngman Rhee's government in the South and the suppression of the October 1948 insurrection there ended hopes that the country could be reunified by way of revolution in the South, and from early 1949 Kim sought Soviet and Chinese support for a military campaign to reunify it by force. The almost total withdrawal of U.S. forces from South Korea in June 1949 left the South defended only by a weak and inexperienced Republic of Korea army. The DPRK army, by contrast, had been the beneficiary of massive expenditure and of Soviet tutelage, as well as having a core of hardened veterans who had fought as anti-Japanese guerillas or with the Chinese Communists.

As you can clearly see, it would make absolutely no sense to unify a country that's been demolished by nuclear weapons.

we have an obligation to do something when we are this powerful and fortunate enough to have the kind of life, equipment, and man power that our beautiful country provides. We have the best minds, and means of any other country on this planet. That comes with responsibility. Just my .02

Common sense helps us weed through the political propaganda.

Is North Korea a tyranical force to dealt with? Perhaps we should ask their ally to the north who helped them get where they are. If anyone honestly thinks they don't have nukes already is clearly mistaken. Perks of being part of the Iron Curtain.

North Korea is sending a clear message to the West to "Back away from our affairs."

I say we let them do their thing and attempt a takeover of South Korea. Then all hell will break loose once the North Koreans get a taste of capitalism in the South. The Korean markets will suffer. But it is my prediction that revolution will spark a fall of the dictatorship and Korea will finally be reunited.

The goal of the U.S. back when it all began was to not force capitalism or our beliefs or way of life onto other countries. Why be the police of the world? All it does is lessen our resources and weaken our nation. If they are U.S. interests, I can see a certain amount of support, but why protect those who are capable of protecting themselves if they truly wanted to do so???

We can't solve everyone's problems, especially when we are ignorant to all the history behind warring nations.

Very true, but in north koreas case, one of the main reasons they are trying to produce these missiles is to make the U.S sweat. They in lamens terms are trying to create one big international pissing contest , IMO

You are correct. And if we simply blow them off and say "whoopdie friggin' do, I've got nukes too," the bomb is diffused and we all move on with our lives.

No offense but Hurricanes in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, etc and even 9/11 was even not all that big of a mess up. New Orleans and the leaders of LA in general were the only F ups. Those people brought it upon themselves to be total wastes of oxygen and be as uncooperative as possible to help there fat lazy worthless asses. :cuss:

Question for Navy guys, the sm-2 missile on Aegies Destroyers and Cruisers, are they capable of knocking out ICBM's and are they the first line of defense.

Let them be. One thousand less N Korean mouths being fed and if their society wants respect in an Arms race, let history be their guide. Socialist and communist societies lose every time. Pity isn't it. The left says this is where we ought to focus our military but now they are backing away from military action. No wonder they contiue their political degradation.
