Thoughts on fender hash marks

Hey guys,

Like most, I absolutely love the stock styling and appearance of the 03-04 Cobra. I have very minimal exterior additions (stainless steel rear inserts, shorty antenna, and my white Kenne Bell sticker in the small windows). I went with 18" AFS replicas because I love the stock rim cut but like the 18" because, in my opinion, it adds some attitude. I'm not a big fan of stickers but I want something to add a subtle amount of styling/aggressiveness and I believe the fender hash tags seem to be the answer.

Our good friends over at AmericanMuscle.com have some listed for very cheap (1999-2004 Mustang Decals, Stripes & Graphics*|*AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!) so I could always buy a set and if I don't like them, oh well I'm out a couple bucks.

My questions to you all: is anyone running a black cobra with the white or silver stripes (to match the sticker in my window or chrome on the car) and just your general thoughts on them, and which color would look best!

Personally, it makes me think of the 1996 Corvette Grand Sports...but maybe thats just me!

Here's my car:

x2 and you need to lower car more or it's not a good angle...p.s. sweet ride....

Thanks! I already run into issues with scraping the front bumper skirt on things and had to roll the rear fenders so they wouldn't rub with the 315s so I really don't want to lower it anymore :D

The stripes originated on racecars in the 60s, not 90s Corvettes

Still...the ac cobra pulls it off, but I would never put those stripes all the way up the fender! And the smaller ones right above the tire just remind me of vettes.

That's the problem with black is you have no contrast on them.

I think if it was my car I'd try 99 style chrome headlights. Maybe just maybe I'd do stripes out of the vents. I don't like them on most cars but on black it might look cool. I always thought flat black looked cool on black car to help break it up.

I almost ordered the matte black hood stripes but changed my mind. I went with the silver fender hash marks. I'll put them on and see if it works with the car.

I'm not a huge fan of the 99 headlights. I prefer the regular with the crome/silver turn signal plastic instead of the yellow

To each their own, but if your looking at stripes I wouldn't do the fenders. Not many people know the origin, and to the average person might seem Teenagerish.

I have a flat black mustang/Cobra stripe on my vert to break up the silver. I personally like it, some may not. But if your wanting to change things up, why not do the stripe in Charcoal or Dark Charcoal, and add color matching wheels? I think that would look sweet on black.

I wouldn't go with earlier headlights, they seem pep boyish.

In the local Shelby club you "earn" your stripes when you go race on the road course--I had them on my Cobra R.

Personally I like hash stripes.I don't think thing are primarily for one kind of car. They are racing stripes on the fender instead of going doing the center of the car.And when your tired of them just take them off. Also they are a hell of a lot cheaper than end to end racing stripes.I surely would not consider putting V6 pony stripes going down my door.Especially on a Terminator. Here is a pic of my old 11 5.0.

LOL at the people that are taking offense to the OP's tiny little KB sticker. We are unfortunately in an age of anything and everything sticker or graphics being declared AutoZone or rice. It's backlash for the out of control graphics of the early 00's and first three F&F movies. Back in the 90's a little bit of striping or graphics looked good if done right and was a standard part of moding out your ride. And yes even a few product decals. Most used to run something club or product related across the entire top of their windshield, shocking I know. Now it's all about being as plain as possible I guess. Ironically, one of the biggest things considered an out of date, junky looking mod back then was...Chrome Wheels.

OP - there is someone on here with a black Cobra with the silver hash stripes and silver wheels - they have a pic in their sig and I think it looks damn good. If I could get them in a really good looking chrome, which I don't think they can really do with vinyl, I would put them on mine.

Exactly, they are cheap and easy to remove if I don't like them. Definitely wont be doing the stripes down the door, that's a little much for me. Almost went with the red, that looks killer!!

I was a little surprised too!! :rolling:

I would have ordered chrome if they had it! I love my chrome rims and on the interior I painted most of my plastics silver so I think I'm going to like the silver hash marks! I'll post pictures when I get them on.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess like it was said, to each their own!
