I know this might sound stupid, but is the removal of the Steeda Tr-Ax shifter the same as removing the factory shifter?

Should be....just 4 bolts after you remove the housing that holds the rubber boot that seals around the base of the shifter.

After that its just trim pieces, shift knob and plug for 12v accesory outlet.

Good Luck

Dont be afraid when you have to pop off the old shifter.
It will be real hard to loosen, but you wont break anything.

When you retighten the shifter handle, crank it down hard. Otherwise you will be missing gears left and right.

Be sure you remove the small cup over the shifter ball and transfer it to the new shifter.

For stock removal, I leave in one front bolt, backed out halfway, and use a channel lock pliers upside down to grip the edge of shifter. (see photo on Joe Lynch's site)

But the Steeda shifter is almost flush with the transmission, so there is no place to grab to break the seal, so I used a rear drum brake adjusting tool. Looks like a bent screwdriver, and it can get in the crack. Then a twist should break the seal.

Good luck.
