Upgrade Time - SVTP Needs a New Server (or 2)

View attachment 1482845

It's been about 4 years since our last significant server upgrade, and about 8 years since a major overhaul. Needless to say, in that time computing and data center technology has progressed immensely; and our hardware needs a replacement. As you might expect, this is not an inexpensive proposition; especially when you consider that we want to throw in a good deal of software upgrades as well. We're looking to spend between $7,000-10,000; depending on what the final setup we end up going with looks like.

That's where you guys come in. We're reaching out to the SVTP Community to help us offset this sizable cost, and there's several ways you can help (many of which actually doesn't cost you anything you wouldn't be spending anyway). The primary ways to help out would be to sign-up as an SVTP Premium Member or make a direct donation through PayPal to [email protected]. If you are interested in becoming an SVTP Premium Member you can do so by clicking the link below:

However, there are also several things you could also do to help support the site that won't cost you anything you weren't going to spend already. First, if you are running an Ad Blocker add-on for your browser please whitelist SVTP in your settings. 3rd Party Ad revenue makes up a large portion of SVTP's operating budget and blocking those ads takes a surprising large bite out of that income. We work to only run a limited number of safe and reasonable 3rd party ads. Please consider whitelisting SVTP so you can help support the site merely by using it.

Speaking of ads, if you see one that may be relevant to you please consider clicking it. That's another way the site generates revenue, and that also will not cost you anything.

Third, please support our SVTP Vendors. We work hard to partner with the best companies in the aftermarket industry to bring you the best deal, specials, and information for parts and services. They pay vendor fees here in order to advertise their businesses and we want them to get a significant return on that investment.

Forth; any time you order new go-fast parts from anyone, but especially SVTP Vendors, please let them know that you are an SVTP Member. It brings the need to support the community to their attention, and it may just get you a discount.

Fifth, we all shop on Amazon.com from time to time. SVTP is actually an Amazon Affiliate Partner. Simply put, that means if you click this link (https://amzn.to/2GMnRBo) and make any purchase on Amazon they will send us a small cut of the total. It's not a tremendous amount, but with the amount of business Amazon does it has the potential to add up. So next time you're going to make a purchase on Amazon, please consider clicking our Affiliate link and then doing your normal shopping.

Finally; if you use YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, or FaceBook please Subscribe, Follow, or Like our SVTP accounts and content. By helping us increase our reach and presence you also help SVTP become a more attractive investment for sponsors. On top of that, you will be able to keep better informed about all of our latest projects and Ford Performance related news.

I shall go FORTH and do the adblocker thing for sure. Also, I've been here so long and I don't think I've had a membership, guess I should change that.

Typical Bernie supporter.

Talk shit on big business but point the finger at him to shoulder the expense when it’s time all the while calling him dumb and ignorant.

Classy move!

This. I'm a Cloud Architect and have moved 400+ apps to AWS for a Fortune 10 organization, but I'm contracting now.

Using on-demand resources can get expensive, but you can take 30% off the top with a 1-year RI purchase or 70% off with a 3-year RI purchase. Using smaller T2.medium instances in auto-scaling for your web tier keeps cost down while it scales down at night during less demanding times. RDS is generally more expensive than an EC2+DB, but if it gives you time back from having to manage the DB it may be worth it. If you have any Non-prod environments for upgrades and testing, turn that shit off at night and back on only when you need it.

There are tons of ways to cut costs in AWS, you just need to know what to look for.
Um, I don't exactly know what he said... But he knows waaaaay more than me, so "what he said"!!

Sent from that shiny thing in my hands
