Was hoping it would be in the 35xx, but 3650 aint bad, thats about the weight of a Terminator and a loaded s197 5.0 + full tank.

I was just reading the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Championship rules and specs this morning. The GT350R-C has a minimum weight (minus fuel and driver) of 3,400 pounds. (It was 3,350, but has already been hit with a 50 lbs "penalty.") That's for a completely gutted car with the requisite race safety equipment, 275/35-18" tire and wheel combo, one-piece driveshaft, etc. (A full fuel cell will add about 128 pounds, bringing the weight to ~3,528 pounds.) Add the street trim back in, and I predict the "base" GT350 will be well in excess of 3,700 pounds (closer to 3,800) and we'll be lucky if the R even touches 3,650 pounds. I was actually hoping it would be sub-3600, but I'm not as hopeful anymore. I'll guess ~3,680 curb weight for the R.

...Considering the GT already has aluminum fenders (and hood?), the biggest weight savings will be in the trans, but then they are going to a dual-mass flywheel. IMO people thinking the car is going to come in at 36xx are going to be disappointed. Figure the car will be 3750-3800# with the R being 130# less (ON D BIT's number) and a BIG chunk of that being wheels (50-60#)...
There was no big weight savings to offset the hardware additions to the car (bigger brakes, tires/wheels, coolers, Magneride, etc.).
Still a very nice job by Ford and SVT!

It will probably feel even lighter than that. Ben Collins said it was a very light car.

Take 150ish more lbs. off as far as feel goes. Those wheels are going to make a big difference in how it hides its weight.

Weight continues to be a disappointment in the S550 era. Hopefully we'll get some 0-60, 1/4 mile and lap times soon.

Probably won't see any independent performance stats until September/October.

I have heard press will drive them in August. True or not we shall see. While im not upset with 3650, I can't say im jumping up and down. My R will have electronics and AC so im getting about 3725-3750 for it. Don't know how much is left thats gonna be bang for the buck in terms of weight loss. Still I have a feeling these cars will be beasts.

How do we know that weight isn't the electronics pack and AC?

gt350 weight

GT350R-Weight-at-Grattan-657x360.jpg Ford has just announced that the new GT350R Mustang has a curb weight of 3,650 pounds with a full tank of gas and full reservoir of coolant, during an event held at Grattan Raceway in Michigan.

The details were provided whilst Ford invited the media attendees to ride along in the GT350Rs as their drivers did hot laps around the track.

Ford has previously noted that the GT350R Mustang is more than 130-pounds lighter than the standard GT350 equipped with the track pack. So we know that the track pack GT350 Mustang will weigh at least 3,780 pounds.

Some comparisons:

3,650 lbs - 15/16 GT350R
3,780 lbs - 15/16 GT350 (526 HP, 7.19lbs/HP)
3,850 lbs - 13/14 GT500 (662 HP, 5.82lbs/HP)

I'm not sure of the HP rating on the GT350R, so I left that off the stats above.
