All I am absolutely sure of is this.

There will be all the gasoline I will ever want available for as long as I will be alive. And it is still cheap and plentiful.

So.......What? Me Worry?

this.

I will be 94 in 50 years if I'm still alive. I remember hearing we would be out of oil around 2000 back in the 80's and that never happened

Maybe the Middle East will 'run out' in the next 40-50 years, and possibly Russia a few decades behind it...once this happens, the US owns everyone, and we get to start butt ****ing everybody on oil prices.

werd

hopefully the US will still be around by then.

Exactly. Except I saw we keep it all to ourselves.

Experts are claiming we have 40-50yrs left at the current rate of consumption. That is not very far away, we have become extremely oil dependent. What do you think will happen if we run out? It could get ugly.

What 'experts?'

We have plenty to last us for a LONG time. We still *accidentally* find new fields all over the place.

I'm a frac engineer, actually out on location right now, and am not worried at all about oil running out. If I get some time later on in my shift I'll link some good SPE papers that poke holes in all the dumb peak theories.

Have you seen the profits of Exxon? GE? Marathon? There are billions to be made right now. If big oil is still investing in big oil, then there is plenty of time before the well dries up.

To put this into perspective, the world uses roughly 31 billion barrels of oil a year, Alberta Canada has roughly 2 TRILLION barrels of oil. Venezuela has much more oil than Alberta. We have enough oil to last us until technologies develop to surpass our reliance on oil.

Actually more like 150 years with current exports, and KSA don't feel like it's relevant in this thread lol. But GCC especially UAE and Qatar won't need to sell oil in few decades as their economy grows. With population less than 13M they will have oil for a long time. Oh, btw natural gas fields in Qatar are almost the size of Connecticut with the highest reserve world wide.

Qatar sells most of their gas to Asia which means we don't export much and keep most of it at home. Maersk is doing some pretty wild stuff from Qatar out into the Gulf with 35K+ TMD wells.

Mini marts will go the way of the Drive-In theater.
Slurpees will cease to exist.
You will be forced to buy your own compressor to fill your tires, and the prices will skyrocket.
Thousands of oil tankers will be turned into floating casinos.
Republicans will blame Obama.
The 1% will pull there money from oil and gas prices will plummet to 18 cents a gallon.
Democrats will blame Bush.
Corey Harrison will be forced to use synthetic oil in his hair.
Life will go on....

I have to believe that vehicles in the future will use a 100% synthetic lubricant along with a synthetic/alternative fuel source. Perhaps a future generation will laugh at when an older society had to depend on fossil fuel. LOL.

I'm curious of those saying we've got several decades left and those saying that's it's not running out soon. Since Marathon Petroleum is HQd here, I think I'll go ask Hemminger if he knows. :D

Oddly enough, this is actually reality.

There's a place in northern Indiana, Fair Oaks Farms, that actually is recovering methane from their farming operations (cow and pig ****).

That methane is enough for them to power their entire farm, their dairy, their visitors buildings, and their entire fleet of trucks that run around the clock up and down I65, and STILL make enough electricity to sell back to the grid.

However I don't think master-blaster runs it.

In 40-50 yrs running out of oil will be the least of my concerns. Crapping my pants or losing my mind will be more of an issue. Hopefully someone shoots me during that time.
