s/c for sure. Just like the current Cobra you would have a tough bottom end and you could turn up the boost safely.

And there is no way possible to make an sn97 3200lbs unless it is stripped to bare minimums with just a driver seat(a lightweight one at that) in the interior, no insulation, no spare, nothing. Why anyone thinks 35-3600 lbs is heavy is still beyond me for a 4 seat coupe. Mercedes 2 seat convertables can easilly top 4000lbs. The SL55 AMG is over 4300 lbs!!! The virtually all composite no expense spared SLR McLaren busts 3900. The Corvette is a much smaller car and it still breaks 3200lbs. An M3 convertable with a NA straight 6 is about 3800lbs, the coupe dances right on 3500 before options(and there are a ton, not litterally of course, you can add). They are considered lightweight cars.

When you compare cars that are in a similar class as the Mustang, then you see that it is heavy.

BMW M3 coupe: 3400
EVO:...................... 3260
STi:........................ 3260
Corvette coupe: 3200
350Z:.................... 3200
RX8:....................... 3100

2005 Base Mustang GT: 3450

So take the base mustang, add bigger brakes, stronger drivetrain, SC 4.6/5.4, stiffer chasis and you're looking at 3600 lbs. All that weight may not be a problem for the 1/4 mile junkies but it is a certain hinderance for the track junkies that want a nimble car as well as fast.

What he said.

Again, to shed that much weight would require some big adjustments. Then you relize how much easier it would be to obtain 100hp.

Yup. Hey, a '67 GT350 weighed in at 3300 lbs without all the safety features, stereo amps, cushy seating, a/c, etc that we now have. Everyone considers that a very light car. That thing cornered on rails and slammed you up against the windows like a bug!

I don't mind the extra 150lbs for a much better, safer car that still gets (at least) 50% better gas mileage.

OK, but a 65/66 GT350 weighed 2950 #'s. The 64-66 Mustangs weighed 2860 #'s with the V-8. The 67/68 cars were heavier and had more weight on the front (56/44 vs. 53/47 for the 64-66 cars). The 69/70 cars were heavier again. [no a/c, safety, inc. in weights]

I wouldn't say they handled as well as you state. The front suspension was very low tech and the rear had leaf springs. They had the old ball joint type steering (the Fox rack and pinion is much better).

The 64/66 cars are the best Mustang for vintage road racing due to the lowest weight and better weight distribution.

The vintage Fox cars (79-93) weighed 3100 #'s (w/ the V-8), and the SN95's weighed 3290 #'s (V-8).

The S197 is the heaviest small block V-8 Mustang. It also has the best stock suspension under it. The coilovers, 3-link w/ a panhard bar, better front roll center, and the best F/R weight distribution (since 1966) will make that '67 GT350 feel like a truck :-D .

I've owned thirteen of 'em; #14 is on the way.

Either case, weight's gonna be a big issue unless they go w/aluminum parts/body panels, etc...

We don't want another 3800# Supra on our hands, do we ;) ?

no 2000 R DOC?

I've always wanted one, but after last weeks Grand-Am Cup race the new "Boy Racer" (who came up with that name?) seems like a nice car.

The S197 race cars at Daytona weigh 3125 #'s according to the rule book. I think a 1, 2 sweep of the field is very commendable for a car's debut race.

04SVTCobra: That Ferrari sounds like a great buy. A '66 275GTB Berlinetta just sold for $485K, or a '58 250GT California Spyder for $1.252M. OK, you can pick up a recent Ferrari for mid to high five figures. I understand the maintanence is a little higher than a Mustang.

 I would prefer the s/c one because the swap of a pulley is 10-50h.p. more wouldn't you?

Is this thing only going to have 450 HP? Its not even going to be competition for the 06 Covette Z06 with 500 HP! I thought the next Cobra was going to be a Z06 Killer. Guess not. :nono:

You've got to be kidding me! Have you seen the specs on the next z06 (which are confirmed unlike anything on the next svt stang). It's a monster and damn light too. Why would you expect ford to make a mustang for the masses that would compete with it? You say "only 450 hp" but in reality it wouldn't even matter if it matched the Z's power, it would need probably 50 more to compete. And given equal drivers, It doesn't even look like that would be enough. If it comes with 450 hp, its probably going to be underrated and still a damn nice platform to start from just like the 03/04.

Yes I agree as well, I would also like the next Mustang Cobra to have a more different looks than the Mustang GT and base V-6 Models. Make the Cobra more of a head turner. :burnout:

The new C6 ZO6 is not much different from the standard C6 models. So far from pics the new ZO6 has Ram Air Hood, Larger Rims/Tires duh, and different steering wheel. And navigation, heated seats etc are still options on this $75K plus car.

It is so freaking hard to wait and see how the next Cobra will look like. ;-)

It also has flared fender wells, a larger front grill opening, modified front brake ducts, the addition of rear brake ducts, and I believe racing seats will be an option.

Also, I will make a friendly wager with you that the MSRP will be less than $75k.
