First of all, I tried a search on 'windows 8' and came up with a bunch of postings about car windows. So much for that.

I've managed to change my tune several times, so I'm not a complete stranger to using the SCT device. So I'm considering getting the Bama hybrid tune, but I want to do a datalog first and send them the datalog results before having them adjust the tune. I did the latest update today to make sure I had the best possible information.

The problem occurred when I was trying to communicate between the tuner and laptop. I called AM and talked to a Bama specialist (SCT was closed) and we tried a couple of things. One was to restart the computer and the other was to make sure I have everything updated. So, I did both.

He claimed it could be a problem with Windows 8 and that makes sense. I'm able to change tunes and to do other things where the laptop isn't involved, but when the laptop is in the picture, things go downhill fast.

I'll call SCT Monday morning. This isn't anything that's 'that' important. However I'm wondering if anybody else has had problems with windows 8 operating system working with SCT tuners.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions given.

Does the computer show the SCT device connected? If not, you have a drivers issue/drivers are not working right for windows 8. Can always try uninstall and reinstall.

Do you have both the datalogging software and the sct software updater installed?

If windows 8 shows the SCT device connected, you can try running the SCT program in compatibility mode for windows 7.

I was able to get it to work on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview by doing what others did and manually install the drivers. So, I assume in the production version it'll work all the same.

I legit just got done datalogging a car using windows 8. It takes a few times for the computer to read the tuner but it will communicate. Patience is prob the best advice.

Windows 8 seems to run all of SCT software fine, I tune on windows 8 with no issues (and with that comes data logging).

Make sure everything is up to date, along with up to date drivers from SCT.

This isn't BAMA's fault, you need to update the drivers for the SCT device and make sure everything is up to date. I have a windows 8 laptop for my vehicles and use the SCT software without a problem.

I got it guys. Thanks for the help.

Just a quick 'resume'. I graduated HS in 1973, did some programming in Fortran, COBOL, and RPG. In college I did programming in Assembler.

I was in the computer biz at major oil company data centers in Houston, but in 1978 went to work for the local electric utility.

In the late 1990's I got my first desktop with Windows 95. I self taught myself Windows 95, and then self taught all subsequent versions of Windows, since they were similar.

I don't have a cell with internet capabilities, so I'm not into things with apps. I thought Windows 8 was just another updated version of Windows 7. Boy, was I wrong. I even had to google to get into the control panel.

However, all is well, and I have an email on the way to BAMA to get the hybrid tune I've read about, along with a 93 performance, and 93 race, if that's possible.

A big thanks to Bob450 who really got me on the right track. Once I got to the control panel, it took all of 30 seconds to get the driver installed.
