I've gotten the, "how the hell did you beat me look" from a few Camaro guys. It is pretty entertaining (ha).

In June/July of 2002, most people we ran into had only read about a Terminator. I suspect many thought we were 99/01 Cobras because most would have not known what body changes to know the difference.

They roll up and the thought process goes, "Hum, think I'm gonna whomp me some 99 Cobra to WTF, this caint be happening".

Off topic a second here.......Franz, were you involved with the Ariel dealer that used to be on 19th Ave, north of Deer Valley Road ?

Yes, that was me on 19th Ave. (I was wondering if I had met you before too when I read one of your posts about B&B Exhaust being right up the street). Did you have the lowered red Z06 and someone else at your office had a black CL63 AMG? Or are you the red Z06 with the black wheels that followed me into the parking lot that day after we were screwing around on HV Rd when I was driving the Atom?

Either way, we should hook up. PM me sometime.

You've got some good posts on here BTW!

Yep......the red Z with the black wheels. :)
It was ironic that I was just reading about the Atom and was wondering if there was a local dealer, and low and behold, you came rolling down HV that morning LOL. Gotta love that Atom.....that was a no contest event that morning :D You also sold my buddy AJ his LMB Z06, which he put the widebody on

I'll drop you a PM

You can't possibly serious. What planet do you live on? "Most SS owners could care less about 1/4 mile runs?" Are you kidding?

Out of all the hundreds, if not thousands, of Camaros I've seen running at the drag strip over the years, you sure as shit could have fooled me.

:dw:

I thought the same thing as you at first but to be fair to him, he was talking about camaro5 specifically. I think he is right but only when talking about that site specifically.

I don't think they are a good representation of camaro's as a whole or even the 5th gen. Most of those guys just flock to whatever they perceive the camaro to do better than the mustang. When they thought it was gonna smoke the gt500 in the 1/4, they cared about those stats. When that didn't pan out, they latched on to lap times. They have even stopped as low as using individual handling metrics to proclaim it the winner without even seeing the two cars go head to head. If the gt500 beats the zl1 at a road course, they will probably move on to competiting in car shows and how it obliterates the mustang there.

IF the ZL1 were going a CONSTANT 116 mph for that last half second, it would cover 85 feet in that half second.

... the ZL1 is doing at least 114 or so for the last half second of the race, which means 83.6' behind the Shelby, or about 5.5 car lengths.

This. Now where is the Noob that thinks .5 at 120MPH is 2.5 car-lengths?

It's part of the reason why I dumped my 2011 as well. Then went with the Boss to see how things with the GT500 panned out.

Which is odd, as the Chinese built MT82 has all kinds of shifting issues. Many 5.0 manual owners have traded for A6's due to the issue, yet somehow the Boss is immune. Kettle?

I heard the transmission itself is VERY stout, it's an engagement/clutch issue with those cars.

With an aftermarket clutch lethal has already gone low 10s/9s in a full weight car repeatedly without upgrades to the trans itself

And the GT500 needs a shifter for better engagement. Neither are perfect from the factory.

What you folks don't get is most ZL1/SS owners could care less about 1/4 miles runs or roll runs at 150 mph.
You're daft! I was on that forum pretty much from day one before I was excommunicated, and there is a thread dedicated to quarter mile times that has been there almost as long as the site has. It wasn't until the talk of the ZL1 being a track oriented car or designed to be an "all-around" performer that everyone jumped into the road course mindset. Even then, the track guys are by far the minority on the site. :rollseyes

This sounded more like a media pity f@ck than a comparison. Just as the 2010 GT won most comparisons vs. the 2010 LS3 SS... I don't understand why the ZL1 starts at $55k with most of those performance numbers. A 12.4@116mph is awful!!!, the acceleration and braking of the ZL1 is worst than the previous GT500. Braking was bad for both cars but 110 feet isn't great.

Word of advice to Inside Line... I know you want to beat everyone to the comparison but please proof read what you publish. Also, spend some time behind the wheel of the GT500 and I bet you won't have any trouble with the ZL1. Learn to shift the car before you test the car.

All it takes is Inside Line to like the ride quality better in the ZL1 and the ZL1 clearly is faster. Lets not forget that this pig is packing a 4300lbs race weight...

I laugh at people that think the Camaro name was forged on the road course. I also laugh at people that still believe Team Camaro's released numbers after the pile of false numbers were released. Lets watch team Camaro eat crow one more time.

Edit: There are an amazingly high number of clueless people buying what ever Team Camaro is selling. The ZL1 is a parts bin reward to themselves... for being second best.... for 42 years.... and only quitting once. The Camaro has become the perfect example of what a pony car should never be.

As usual...........thePill is spot on!!! The Inside Line articles make me want to puke.

The Boss has an upgraded clutch over the GT. Like the Lethal GT with a different clutch I have no issues.

Do you really believe all the rhetoric you're spewing? I remember when you posted very sound and reasonable posts on C5. Heck, I really liked your posts because I always seemed to learn something. Your tone recently has turned bitter and you sound almost vengeful. Has the kinder, gentler Pill gone forever?

If you guys read the article. Which you shouldn't, It shows how much better the zl1 is all around. Add a pulley and tune to make up for the $7k price and 100hp difference. The gt500 is ancient history.

Inside line was saying the "The 1-2 shifts were slow and hard"

GT500 is a great car, but the only ones making it look bad are people like devious stang.

Ancient history?! So you want to MOD the ZL1 but keep the '13 GT500 stock so you can make it ancient history:nonono:....that's fair. How about you give the same pulley and tune mod to the GT500.:poke: If you are going to mod the crapmaro give the same to the GT500, apples to apples. You will still be seeing GT500 taillights.

A pulley and tune ZL1 will not beat a STOCK GT500. Shelbys have made as much as 615rwhp stock. Being that the ZL1 weighs more id say it would need at least 650rwhp to INSURE a win against a GT500. With ONLY a pulley and tune that aint happenin...

This. To even keep up with a stock 2013, the ZL1 will need heads, cam, headers, pulleys and tune..... and just about be maxed out on the powdered internals. Geeez, it really is not in the same class as the Shelby. Should be compared to the Boss and the 392 Challenger.

Let's not get carried away. A ZL1 with those mods and a torque converter went 9.80's.

Yea def not heads and cam. Id say it would take full bolt ons and a maxed out 1.9 to be able to beat a stock shelby. On pump gas also.

But a bolt on Shelby is a 9sec car.

Come on man, that's a stretch A6 CTS-Vs have run low 11s @125mph+ pullied with full bolt-ons.

A ZL1 will easily match that.
