I LOVE MY "JOB"!!! Something i'm great at which allows me to travel a lot. Get to see the world while making money and meeting people (some in high places). I don't have to answer to anyone but myself and i can take a vacation or a sick day at the drop of a hat (rarely ever do i do that). I continue to learn new things by providing challenges and hurdles daily. It's a test every week to see what i'm capable of. On top of all that fun stuff, it also allows me to pursue other ventures. How can i complain?!?!??!

sorry if i rained on someone's vent parade with my positivity. haha

Btw before someone asks....i'm in the export industry..oooooooohhhhhh

I started the thread because seeing that there are other people out there that love what they do is refreshing and motivating (which i needed both) and judging from the thread so do some others.

That sounds awesome. He get clocked pretty good?

Unfortunately he did and was swollen up for a few day's, but it was his own decision to make the stop alone instead of either waiting for another manager or myself. Him also acting like he was the police, and telling the person he was stealing instead of acting in calm and persuading him back into the store aided into that.

Main chunk of it is logistics, freight forwarding. Now i'm pretty deep into buying used construction/heavy equipment here in the states and selling them to by clients overseas. Then i also get to make profit on transporting it to them where ever in the world they are. Been doing this with Autos for years. Also, own condos that are on rent and land in various locations in the world. My wife's income along with rental property gets stored for rainy days and future kids.

i agree, it's motivating to see others succeed, but not everyone thinks the same way.

Sounds awful, make the change. it's tough and you will be tight on cash for a few months, but it's worth making a change specially as you mentioned there is no room for growth.

Unfortunately, wish i had something to offer, but my IT guys are 2 of my great friends who go above and beyond and i agreed for them to do their own hiring. They hired their friends lol. I can't let em go, but if i hear someone looking for IT i'll shoot you a PM.

I remember one of my friends, who works IT for an oil inspection company in pasadena, was looking for a new IT guy. Problem is the pay really isn't good ($35,000) and the environment is probably similar to where you are at now.

How do I get into your field? lol.

As most of you know, I am a car salesman, and I love it. Awesome company, awesome people, and I'm good at what I do. I have no complaints.

I also hate my job. Im an engineer/ AutoCad operator for a family owned custom rv manufacturer. Im like you guys, sunday night rolls around and I dread to know what monday brings. The salesman here think they are gods and the owner is an arrogant ass. Pay sucks, no benefits, I feel like i have reached my ceiling after two years and I have no where else to go. Ive got 20k in student loans in business Management thats doing nothing for me. I feel like i am stuck in mud! But i have a family now so i just keep on keepin on.

My situation is that i love what i do but not exactly how i do it.
I am a software developer and living in NY the only real way to make good dependable money is to be in the financial industry. So, while i much rather be working on mobile platforms or games, i am working on trading software.

I have met some great people and we all work together now, we work remotely from home and have a manager that is very hands off.
I think i rather work a job i am not 100% into for the money so that I can retire earlier rather than work a job i really love until i die.

Im an engineer for a very small engineering firm in socal making stuff for the government and some other contractors. Its my first job after college. I don't dislike my job. People are super nice and easy going. The owners have a very strong interest in making sure everyone is happy. The job is super chill and easy. The only other engineer here is super cool. The pay and benefits suck though. i make a minimum of 10K a year less than I think I should be making. no health insurance, no vacation for a year. after a year I get 1 week vacation, then it goes up to 2 after 2 years and stays there. The kicker is we get 2 weeks unpaid time off for Christmas and new years. So you basically get no paid vacation if you want any extra time off. I don't even get a 401k plan. they have a "profit sharing plan" that is their replacement but no one can tell me anything about it.

Thats really the only thing I don't like is the benefits. Oh and the fact I have no where to go even though I just started this year. No one has gotten a raise in over 10 years either. Oh well, I never planned on staying here forever anyways. Just a stepping stone to a bigger company.

Sorry to hear there are so many people out there who hate their jobs.

Im loving my job and generally my path in life. Moved from norcal to socal, extremely happy with the choice. Found a great job at a place thats expanding exponentially and getting in on the ground level has so far been very rewarding.

Im self employeed and love it. Its not as easy as some think. It can be a 7 day a week job if you let it. But where i live, there is not office job that can pay what i make.

Man this thread is perfect timing, ive been contemplating applying for some other jobs as my current is miserable. I am a Network Tech/admin/do everything including helpdesk for a co-op utility with no room to advance, and work with some people who are complete idiots and don't belong in IT. Have been in my current position for 5 years, hold a few certs and just hate sitting behind a desk. When i have major projects that require some travel i get in a good mood and love my job, but once im back in the office im ready to jump out a window.

I really shouldn't complain though, it has good benefits and i started making more money than i should of for being 21 w no college and only technical training. Got my foot in the door through an internship and got hired on full time. I guess i just want more out of a job now and will start looking soon i think

I hated working for most other people so I became the boss. I own 2 small seasonal businesses that have both turned out great. I get to make all the decisions anf my success is based off what I do.

I cant imagine working for someone else ever again. If I have a problem with an employee, I dont have to deal with their shit and dont have to put up with them.

I'm a landscaper....let's say its not awesome. I do like the job though, especially now that I'm running a crew. I'm also going to school for electrical engineering and have a 3 year old as well as newborn twins (planned...except for the twins obviously). My job is extremely flexible so I can do school and take care of child appointments if I need to. Not to mention, since its not cutting season I only work 35 hours a week, but get paid for 40. The pay is a lot better than I would have expected for the job, but without the GI bill I would be struggling.

Well another reason i started the thread was i heard on the radio that a recent study showed over 80% of people reported they will be actively looking for a new job in 2014. That number blew my mind. Obviously some people will hold a job that pays the bills until other things that fall into place but I've even seen similar numbers in my own office, we had 1600 people here shortly after i started, i got hired and then there as a hiring freeze and policies started to change, fast forward a year and we have lost 20+ people a month since Jan 13... the more people leave the harder the remaining have to work which makes work suck and then more people leave.... its snowballing for sure and the veteran guys here are all saying its going to get worse before it gets better.

I'd just be happy to have a full time job again. :(

Having struggled more now than ever, I don't even care how bad the job really is. I'll be in it for the long haul come time.

Me being in highschool for another year I don't have many choices, I don't hate my job whatsoever. I don't love it either, though. I work in the warehouse for a grocery store here which is basically the same shit everyday which kinda sucks, but it is the best I can get so far.

Plan on going onto a farm or into another company near me for warehouse work this summer, so I can make some good money before college and I plan on trying to get the job for sure at the plastics warehouse while I am actually in college.

After college I plan on going for petroleum engineering, if anyone is in that business, I wouldn't mind hearing some tips or tricks haha.

Network Engineer for a large non-profit. I love going to work every day. My office/datacenter is a huge think tank and they promote "Google" like work ethics. When I travel, they spare no expense and take care of me.

It's nice to work for a large company who doesn't argue much with what you do. They trust that I get my work done and I have no problem some weeks dedicating 60-70 hours for them.

I didn't mean to point this out.

But it's your first job out of college, why do you honestly think you deserve more money? Just because of a piece of paper?

You will learn experience will dictate the money. Not the paper

32 years working for the same company. Lived in four different states, working different positions. Started on the very bottom. Never asked for that next job, was always asked. Traveled the world. I have met a lot of great people. Now I am in Senior management. I try to give good people every opportunity to succeed, as I was given opportunities. Happy? I thank God everyday I have what I have!

Work hard, and the money takes care of itself.

No i get that, i dont expect huge $$$ straight out of college. But i make 10K less than average from one of the best engineering schools in the nation. Granted my job choices were limited since circumstances restricted location. The people are nice but they are cheap. If I worked at a similar (larger) company in a different location, id be making close to 15K more starting, plus better benefits.

Im not just saying im worth X amount because I say so. Its based on what people are actually getting paid with my experience at larger companies.
