FORD should build another super car and do like they did before, over look the vette, and go strait at ferrari.
This is what I'd prefer to see, a Ford GT successor.

me too,to kill off ferrari.they can do it.there is no doubt.if an aftermarket company can make a FORD GT do 283mph in 1 mile,FORD could put out a destroyer.epper:This is what I'd prefer to see, a Ford GT successor.
And only a couple of hundred will be sold. I don't think Ford needs to branch out in this direction as they have quite a number of performance variants that the company will actually make money on. This is just pouring money down the drain and is more of a publicity stunt. That's why they make Lambo's for anyone dumb enough to buy one :nonono:
I understand what youre saying although i have to say wrong. the mustang is not a viable canidate for a "halo" car. vette and viper are american halo cars ford could easily trump both cars with a similar product. GM FORD CHRYSLER have pony cars both have sports cars and 4 door muscle yet Ford being the odd ball does not. people think the mustang can be converted to a sports car sorry but a mustang can not do what a vette viper or even a kit car cobra could do after all two definitions seperate the mustang and vette. many think ford would pull some major feat with the stang being some HI-PO track car its not happening. some people need a wake up call. And ford has a lot of money to throw at a sports car and not skip a beat.Halo cars are a break even prospect at best, so until there is a business need for one I think you'll see the Mustang carrying the flag. Right or wrong.

Tell that to GM about their vette program. im not saying ford make a 100K car but instead something around the 50-60K mark or so. ford would sell them. was there a market for the raptor? NO yet ford saw a chance and grabbed it. any car ford makes they will sell it.I agree that the mustang is not a sports car and cannot compete with the vette or viper. But there is no viable reason to make a car that competes with them either. What would be the rationale to "throw money" at such a car? Bragging rights? There's got to be more to it than just that. The Ford GT was a badass car, but it did nothing for Ford in the long run.

If Ford comes out with a 2-door sports car in the 50-60K range, that would draw from the high end Mustang sales (whether that be a GT350, SVT Cobra, Mach 1, etc). However, with Ford broadening the scope of the Mustang platform, maybe they'd make up for those loss in sales with more overall Mustang sales across the globe. I saw an article saying the Falcon is being replaced by the Mustang in Australia.
Trying to compete with GM in the Corvette platform could be very dangerous (evident by "we concede that platform to the Corvette"). It's comparable to the Microsoft Zoom trying to compete with the iPod. The first one to the market is the winner. They would have to invest a lot of R&D and manufacturing costs to develop such a car. Manufacturing costs and capital investment can be avoided if they could find a way to build it on the same line as the Mustang though.
the corvette starts at 51K and goes up to 62K the gt500 starts at 55K and goes to 63K or 64K. the problem with ford is they are throwing money into one car and one engine! people are buying mustangs because that is the only model ford offers to performance buyers when you can buy a base vette for the same or less. im not saying ford should invest in a another GT yes it would be a 100K plus car I could buy such a car with cash in hand.
If Ford was to introduce a new sports car, it would more than likely, follow the lines of the GT.
ford doesn't have to go that route yet many ford you think ford would make another GT.
the topic on this thread was
would a hi-po 2-seater Ford have a negative impact on the Mustang?
this is not a topic about a super sport car exotic that the GT was,
exotic's are pricey but regular sport cars aren't such as the vette. ford could easily make such a move and do fine on it. the GT500 is a overpriced factory supercharged turd basket with big breaks and that's it its nothing special.
base mustang, GT mustang, mach1, svt product, and a sports car that's how ford should lay their performance cars out. none of this 20 different model mustang's garbage that ford keeps throwing at us.

I had a terrible time trying to decipher that... So I'll do my best at a decent response.
I answered the question of the topic. My opinion is that a "hi-po 2 seater" would negatively affect Mustang sales.
I elaborated upon the topic as others had and discussed the possibilities Ford could go with. Calling the Shelby overpriced may be a stretch as well. It is performing along with much more expensive cars and you don't exactly see them on lots for long (minus cars with ADM). I know not everyone will spend 60K+ on a Shelby. I'm one. I elected to go with a '12 and save my $10,000 (no X plan on '13). However, you can't call them overpriced when they are running with 60K+ Corvettes, even though they are different platforms.
It's all about finding what market is going to make Ford money. If there's no money to be made in a different platform, then they're going to continue to invest in the Mustang.
what i wrote was a dose of reality. your opinion states you think a 2 seater hi-po car would effect mustang sales. NO it would not. ther is a market for american sports cars sadly ford does offer any options outside the mustang. there is a market for another 2 door muscle car that wont happen because such a car WOULD hurt mustang sales. GT500 is awaste for the price. last time i saw a GT500 messin with some vettes the GT500 wasnt keeping up in speed or handling. Mustangs are not sports cars never will be. you understood my comment just fine you just choose to argue for the sake of arguing.I had a terrible time trying to decipher that... So I'll do my best at a decent response.

a 6.2lAnother run of the Ford GT with two engine options. Twin turbo or 4.0 whipple sc on the 5.8l trinity

My response was not for sake of arguing... but I supposed this post is?
It doesn't really matter. It's all an opinion of what would happen. We have different opinions, and that's cool. No worries. We're not Ford execs.
It's also your opinion that a GT500 is a waste for the price. Just like it's my opinion that a Yukon Denali is a waste for the price. Once again, they're different opinions. We don't have to turn this into a GT500 vs. Corvette thread. Plenty of those around.
I understand that what you written is an opinion but what you wrote was pointless. you stated if ford made such a vehicle it would affect mustang sales. no it would not affect mustang sales. that was my reply to your opinion, did the GT affect mustang sales? NO! so why would a 50K-60K sports car affect mustang sales? especially when bot vehicles are in different classes? did the raptor hurt F150 sales??? NO! the GT500 is a glorified sports car, a failed attempt by ford that never will be what ford had planned for it. you think differently because you see a high end mustang model. only because that is what ford gives us, they make ten different trims for one car. GM has no problem with the corvetteMy response was not for sake of arguing... but I supposed this post is?

neither would ford if they built the same type of vehicle.

".Why do you believe a $50K sports car offered by Ford wouldn't affect the sales of a $45K Mustang? " and why should the mustang be priced so high??? because ford only offers performance packages in one car and one car only yet this model seems to fail every time compared to corvette.
from a standpoint of 50K-60K a 2 door sports car would fit just fine in the ford line up. you're not getting this are you??? the mustangs get so high price because of ford's doing, they stick so much crap into 1 car and call it some special package trim level. the mustang will never be able to compete with the vette. with out having to make another car. why would a 2 door sports effect the mustang in sales? you keep dodging the question.
writing 10 trim levels was a figure of speech sadly you took it seriously!... " sThe GT didn't affect Mustang sales because it was 4X the price. Not nearly equal... Those two cars were meant for two completely different demographics of consumers. Plus, the drop in sales that would have occurred, would barely show up on the map due to such low production numbers on the GT (4,000 units from 2004-2006)" if ford was to build a sports car for around 50K-60K sales on the mustang would not get hurt. does sales on the Camaro get hurt while the corvette is not much more? why wouldn't it work for ford especially having more money to throw at such a project? 30K for the GT mustang and 55K plus for the GT500 why is there not a place for a sports car? the gt500 has no place especially being priced so high and a vehicle that doesn't compete well with corvette nor will ever. I don't see the GT500 being worth 25K-30K plus for just an engine with .8l 's more than the 5.0l with a blower and some stripes, I don't get it! I can take a mustang GT add a couple grand and mop the track with a GT500.
Ok, we simply don't agree. I'll just leave it at that. No need to beat the dead horse.

im not trying to insult you so don't think that but you keep dodging my question. no beating a dead horse here you just keep writing stuff that has nothing in common with the topic at hand here!
and im not going to agree with you because we both have different points of view about two different cars yet my point of view seems to be more favorable for a 2 door sport car. obviously you like mustangs and I despise anything mustang or related to the model. a sports car will not hurt mustang sales but you think other wise. general motors does so well with a Camaro and a sports car yet you think ford cant do the same thing as GM is doing! unfortunately there are too many people on this forum that are just ignorant of facts and think the mustang was some kind of gift that was sent down here by god him self and see no use for another car.
