So who's gone from Long tubes back to Manifolds?

Since I'm still pretty bummed about the way the car sounds I might go this route... Right now it has Kooks 1" 5/8 LTHs, off-road x and Borla Stingers. Car hasn't had a on dyno tune yet, just a few revisions to richen the mixture but as stated in another thread, pop and 4V sound is gone.

My current set up is a 2.2L Kenne Bell which I don't foresee going away in the future. So IMO there's not much gain for me to run headers other than the sound. Plus it only makes future inevitable jobs such as changing starters and clutches more difficult.

Thoughts are welcome

I love the way headers sound on these cars, no way I`d go back to manifolds. Kooks are nice quality headers too!

Yeh those are top notch headers, I just picked up the Borla Touring Catback and am saving for either the BBk catted X Pipe or Magnaflow Catted X pipe to hook up to stock headers. I hear these cars sound amazing with the H Pipe attached to the longtubes tho, very deep and aggressive. I would keep your current setup, and get a custom dyno tune to have it running on point! Good luck man

Go with Magnaflow or Bassani. BBK is junk.

I was wondering the same thing. The car I picked up has kook long tubes but changing tge clutch just got that much harder and cant go as low with the car. What about the bassani mid length headers? Do they hang as low as LT and is there better serviceability with them?

I have arh 1 3/4", 3" off road x pipe, and Bassani catback. The car sounds down right awesome. Not loud until I mash the pedal. People don't expect that loud mean sound, catches everyone off guard. If you have popping sound that's tune related. I had that with my old tuner.

Ditch the stingers.

Yeah I hear a lot of negative comments about the BBK parts, but when shopping on a budget it's difficult to get used parts for a good price! These cars are still very sought after, and all used parts are either mangled or selling for the same price as Brand New. For instance those kooks headers a lone are going for more then a grand right now, thats nuts! I am keeping a look out for premium parts in the NY area, but sometimes its just nice to open a brand new package!! I can't even get a set of gears installed on my IRS Cobra for less than 500 bucks just for the labor. FML. Quality Dyno tunes are 400 a session. <3 NY

Catted Midpipes are the only way to pass Emissions in NY, They are double the price but half the headache come inspection time! HotCobra how the hell did you reach 400 with a canned tune and exhaust work, thats amazing if true!

After watching the hell that a friend went through after trying to get through SMOG with long tubes I decided to go with shorty headers, stock H pipe with factory cats and a Borla 14258 quiet cat back. I am very happy with the sound I get.
But take into account that I'm an old guy and am past screaming loud pipes. Plus I really, really hated the drone on the freeway.

No problem getting it past California SMOG.

Most stock have dynoed 380ish..

we seen 30 hp and tq gain with a push of 1 button

hoping to get back on dyno @400k...like to see how engine has held up on power not neing beating to death.

still feels like new driving

That pop/crackling your looking for on decal is tune related. Mine does it and sounds glorious with my kooks Lts.

I've had a lot of exhaust set ups, and Kooks LT and 3inch xpipe paired with some stingers is probably my favorite. (I do like the MAC catback, but the fitment is so damn shitty)

Now that I have Cams added to the equation.. Good god... This is what a cobra is supposed to sound like!!

You like that popping on decel? I had it and hated it. Sounded like a damn old farm grain truck. Stingers are to raspy for me, I guess it's all perspective.

Yeah those stingers sound mean! I see a lot of them paired up with the bassani off road x pipe and the LTs. A little too loud for my taste, and the drone is definately noticable. But a lot of guys enjoy the roar with WOT especially the cops when they hear them coming from blocks away!!

I gained over 20rwhp with the mac long tubes. The tq went up also. I forgot how much I gained. some people I know, didn't gain that much. But, after the headers were installed, there mph in the back went up. so it didnt show on the dyno, but, at the track, the car was faster. You also have to understand, headers also dissipate the heat from the motor faster. its a win win all around. I would never go back to manifolds. why would we?

If you have a big twinscrew, or even a tvs you need those long tubes IMO.
