^^^This. Most all of my appliances are Whirlpool. They have been very reliable. The Stainless/Black fridge is about 10 years old and no issues. Have a dryer and washing machine about that age and they have been workhorses. I do have a Frigidaire electric convection range oven and it has not been great. Two of the 5 elements have burned out recently and need to be replaced. Thankfully they are easy to replace.

sounds like a great time to upgrade to a gas range.

My buddy and his father run a small appliance repair business and he specifically told me to stay away from any appliance from Samsung. He said they are junk. He also said LG is almost as bad...as I sit here typing this on my Samsung phone.

Well dang I guess I should've done more research. Thanks for all the replies, looks like I'll be going Sony after this one.

Costco will only accept returns up to 90 days from purchase. After that, you have to deal with Samsung.

EDIT: You can, of course, pay for an extended warranty through Costco. And from what I read, their service is above average.

According to what I was looking at yesterday, it comes with a 2 year warranty through, and I can purchase an extra 2 or 3 years pretty cheaply. Their customer service and return policy is far above and beyond any other retailer.

my 10 year old Whirlpool Gold fridge is still working pretty well. no major issues.
my 3 year old Whirlpool Gold fridge has had nothing but problems. every little thing is breaking left and right. ive got the whirpool tech coming back tomorrow to fix two completely separate issues on it. they had TSPs for both issues but only will fix them for no charge for 3 years. i was six months out of the range but the repairman sweet talked the rep on the phone for me and got it covered. tomorrow he's replacing the entire ice maker which started having issues just after the 1 year warranty and also the evaporator coil has a known issue where it leaks freon and cant keep the freezer cold enough.

on top of the plastic parts i have to replace out of pocket because they just broke for no reason. one part being the 2nd part of the water line system which caused water to leak inside the fridge.

not bad for a $2500 fridge though..

just replaced my 10 year old LG washer/drier with new LGs. the old ones were still working but not as efficiently. so we went with new since our water/power company was offering fat rebates.

i have multiple samsung tvs in the house. the only one to have issues was 10 year old DLP which worked great till not too long ago. not too expensive DIY fix though. just replaced it with a 65" samsung though.

My fridge is a Whirlpool Gold also and has a build date of 1/2008....lol.....and no issues. Before I got into Samsung TV's I always had Toshiba's. My last one was a 56 inch DLP a long time ago and that TV gave me problems. Since then all Samsung TV's and some over 10 years old with zero issues. My main TV is the 65 inch Samsung smart tv(no camera) that I bought a few years ago and its great. Like I said earlier all the manufacturers will have issues with their products to some degree. I have had great reliability with my Whirlpool appliances and Samsung TV's. Some will have bad experiences.

Surprised. I'm pretty damn happy with Samsung, never had a problem with any of their products, and I have owned a lot of them. I've got the Samsung S7 phone, 3 of their TVs, soundbars, washer/dryer set, and some other miscellaneous stuff. No issues. Just upgraded a Plasma TV i had for 9 years to a new curved 60 inch 4K tv, and the thing is beautiful.

I have had very bad experiences with Samsung. I wont go into details but multiple appliances, multiple errors.
Lesson learned, it will be a very long time if I ever buy anything Samsung.

Actually Whirlpool has a large plant in Ohio where they manufacture appliances.

You are correct, Whirlpool appliances are (primarily) manufactured in the U.S. It's about 75% in the U.S. and the rest outside the U.S. They have plants in 4 states. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers accused Whirlpool of shutting factories in the United States. But it is good that the majority of their appliances ARE manufactured here in the U.S.

Are Maytag washer and dryers typically reliable? Or is it pretty much a crap shoot no matter who you pick?
