Another American history fairy tale.

Napoleon was already soundly defeated by the time winter hit. They were actually in full retreat when winter started. The vast majority of Napoleon's losses were during the summer when soggy ground conditions hampered their movement.

The same conditions defeated the Germans. Hitler thought they would advance quickly through Germany and the autumn and summer conditions slowed them down so much that they weren't prepared for winter because they thought they would be in and out by then. Like the French, the Germans suffered their casualties during the summer months. Nazi generals wrote Russia off as a loss before winter even started and knew they didn't have the supplies to hold off the Russians even if winter wasn't coming.

It's sad how the American education system failed us so badly. So much of what we were taught was more fairy tale than actual history.

Its how you control the populace.

I know. I was making a funny, more or less. Rule number 1 of going to war gentlemen.. Don't invade Russia in the winter. It's from a movie.

While we are on the topic. I got a question for everyone. Was Hitler responsible for killing millions of Jews? Just curious how you guys view this.

Another question for you guys. Why do you think Hitler invaded so many countries such as Poland?

Well, knowing now what kind of men he had under him I would say he had a certain idea of how the Jews would be handled, then as he put men into position to carry out his tasks they took liberties of their own and so on until we got to the mass extermination of the Jews that we know of now. The internment camps with the experiments, the gassings, etc. There's no way Hitler could have been involved first-hand with every camp and everything that was happening in them. Being preoccupied with the war effort I doubt he really bothered to know or care. He's equally as responsible but my guess was it was the men under him that orchestrated it all.

****ing bravo! Great opinion and post. I feel the same. Obviously he is responsible due to his position and acquaintance. However I think it's interesting he was NEVER known to or been proven to even know any mass execution took place.

Well obviously he wasn't there in person pulling the handle or whatever. As the leader, in general...What do you think and why?

The area had began alienating Jews in the mid - late 30s, making it very difficult for Jews to get schooling / jobs, and it snowballed from there.

I'm with svtfocus^^ I feel he knew what would happen and turned the other cheek, as he had other things on his mind.

Hitler knew damn well what was going on in the camps, he may not have been involved in the day to day tedious aspects of the camps, but you can bet your ass he gave carte blanche to his subordinates to address the "Jewish Problem"...

Your speculation is simply that. Facts are facts though.

You can't not reference Joseph Goebbels diary entry from a meeting of the Reich Chancellery held in 1939.

Regarding the Jewish Question, the Führer has decided to make a clean sweep. He prophesied to the Jews that, if they yet again brought about a world war, they would experience their own annihilation. That was not just a phrase. The world war is here, and the annihilation of the Jews must be the necessary consequence.

It is true though, there is no written or verbal account or order from Hitler known to exist in relation to the termination of Jews.

ehhhhhhhh I'm not so sure on that. A lot of the macabre practices that were performed inside the concentration camps were kept under tight wraps.

Like Mengele's experiments. Hardly anyone was privy to what exactly he was doing, aside from those that saw it first hand / the doctors he was in communication with. The records were destroyed, and the witnesses....well...you know.
