Another mosin. She’s a little more weathered than I usually look for but being 113 years old I’m not judging much. Still has the imperial Russian stamp still on it.
Edit: did the math wrong. She’s 118 years old.

Who's the go to for 5.56 and .22 these days?

Are Crack dealers selling ammo now? Back in the day I bought .22, 9mm, 5.56 and .223 by the buckets for pennies on the dollar. A metal box of 500 .22 was less than $50. I got 2 ammo cans once full of .223 for $250. I believe that was 1000 rounds.

I stopped by a local shop this week to get some and a box of 50 was $35.

Box of 30 rounds of .223 was insane!

Wtf? I haven't bought ammo since mid 90s. Wtf happened?

Yea…. its ****ing nuts. Your best bet is online. Register to a site and wait for their sale price on certain ammo (sub $10-9 for box of 20 ct) w/ free shipping on it to soften the blow. Order in bulk when you catch a good break. I’d say in todays economy, buying 1k rounds of .223 or 5.56 in the mid 400s range is what you can realistically expect. The gun stores / ranges are straight extorting customers. You best bet for a store is Academy or a pop and mom’s gun store that sells at decent prices.

.22 is SUBSTANTIALLY less expensive.

I’m 5 weeks into my first shooting “league”.

50’ pistol, rim or center fire.

First week I used my Taurus 9mm. Sucked.

Weeks 2-5 I’ve used my brothers Sig 1911 .22. Sucked, sucked, sucked, and sucked.

But… I’ve improved every week, and one of my targets this past week wasnt bad.

I remember 22lr being 5 bucks a brick of 500rds lol

The 223 im currently making is costing me about 50c a round...but thats using new Sig brass and some nosler 70gr hpbt with cci primers (120 bucks for 1000, used to be 12 bucks a brick)

Now i could buy ball ammo for 40ish cents a round but well these ones are more for things that are " special" lol

The cheapest I've gotten Federal .223 55 grain fmj 1000rds was $410. A few years ago it was $300-320 pretty much everywhere. Velocity ammo has PMC 1000rds for $412.99 right now. PMC 5.56 62 grain green tip $459.99 1000rds.

Do I need an FFL to purchase short barreled rifles? I see this "Requires FFL to ship."

Anyone have their FFL? is it worth while to get one? Benefits?

You will need an FFL dealer and also the completion of proper paperwork (app for NFA tax stamp). IIRC ATF Form 4.

I think SBRs are a pain in the ass to have. Not worth the squeeze, unless you are raiding structures in a professional capacity.

You could just own a 14.5” barrel with a pin/welded muzzle device to get to 16” and not have to worry about none of the bullshit.

Think about it… Our troops were fighting with the ol’ reliable M16 (20” barrel).

Not to mention longer barrels give you superior velocity and are “technically” more accurate.

Thats a pass for me, Dawg!

You need to file a form 4 (don’t tell them that the plane on the treadmill doesn’t take off - you’ll likely be denied) and pay a $200 tax stamp then wait~30-60 days for your approval. There are some special considerations of owning/transporting an NFA item so you’ll want to review those and decide if it’s worth it.

Obtaining your own FFL for personal reasons is going to be not worth the headache/nightmare unless you have some real specific needs

Unless it's a 300blk, then sbr that shit.
Or weld a suppressor to the barrel to give you 16 inches and only one tax stamp
