Are you going to **** with the car?

If so, hellcat all day. The 392s like to blow out the rings if you run more than 5-6psi of boost.

However, Hellcats can make 1000rwhp on stock motor, right @zhisel ? :D

@DavidHasselhoff what say you sir!?!?! hehe

But for real.

Hellcat.

What are you seeing with the 392 and failed lifters? Is it an isolated problem, or is it becoming pretty common?

S6 all day long, way nicer interior, better handling and you cant beat AWD launches. However get rid of it the day the warranty goes out. LOL you've been warned

Its the MDS lifters that are prone to failure, if the car has MDS, we usually replace those lifters with Non-MDS lifters if we do a cam.

Happens across the entire fleet, unfortunately.

If it's anything like my Jeep SRT, you have to shut off MDS every time you get in the car (putting it into sport mode or just hit a paddle shifter in any mode). I don't know why you'd want to shut off MDS though. I've put 12k miles on the jeep and the MDS system is seamless.

To hopefully prevent wear on the lifters. IIRC @Zemedici said that the system causes wear on those parts. And also I just don't care for the setup of shutting down cylinders. Now if the lifters still fail regardless, then it won't bother me as much. But it would second guess me from buying a car with an engine that has a crappy component that fails on stock power levels.

I completely disagree with this. I have owned a 5.7 hemi ram with mds for the past 4.5 years and i absolutely hate the mds. I drive in country roads 85% of the time. I shut the mds off everytime i get in my truck. Maybe the SRT is different, but i could tell you everytime the mds kicked on blindfolded. I work on a busy road and could even tell you when a ram or gm with mds goes by. To me sounds like driving under water. It is def not seamless (for me anyway). Definitely can be felt in performance. I still average 17-18.5mpg hand calculated without the mds. so that is good enough for me with a truck. If i wanted a 4 cylinder truck i would have bought one. just my $.02

My wifes durango(5.7) shuttered at certain speed(45-60-ish) with it on. Turned it off with the button and the overall MPG didn't change. Still get 20+ on the highway at 80+mpg.

You are a wealth of info on those Mopars...If I ever change it up, know who I am talking too! Do the heads have to come off to do lifters, like on the LSx motors?

scat pack all day.

I too am saving for a viper and was looking to upgrade to the Scatpack but I am going to stick with my 300c SRT8 as it will be paid for soon. Plus I like the 300 SRT8 for looks way better the 300 is more refined looking.

If you really want to save go with a 2011-2014 SRT8 they are in mid to low 20s now and are a Corsa Extreme catback away from hitting all your likes.

I would rock that 300c until the wheels fall off. Cannot beat luxury matched with power. They're total sleepers....slap a Vortech on them and hold the **** on! :D

Thank you buddy, it truly means a lot. I do my best to give out unbiased, factual information based on my firsthand experience in the industry.

The heads do have to come off, as they're OHV motors (sound familiar? ;) )

FWIW, on the OG SBC and SBF motors you just had to take the intake manifold off, loosen/remove rockers and pushrods...the lifters were fully accessible in valley

I put mine in sport mode every time I drive it. I hate that nonsense shifting to 8th gear non stop to try and "save gas mileage"

Cars like the HC Charger, Mustang, Camaro, etc weren’t designed to be high speed long distance haulers. The S6 is. Averaging 21 mpg over 3 tanks while still having fun.
I get anywhere from 6 to 24MPG in the Hellcat and 20MPG at 90. Hellcats don't have MDS either
I thought the Daytonas had the same suspension setup as the Scat, IE non adjustable. But yea, you can get the 6 piston brakes/15.4" rotor up front.
Correct, Daytonas are non-adjustable and have the big brakes but they do have a sport mode for faster shifts and traction control. They also sit about an inch taller than the Hellcat. My mom bought one and loves it. Spins in 2nd gear when she tries to race me. I had 4 guys and 3 golf bags in mine and still spun haha

Josh can the MDS be defeated in the tune.
Not that I care I'm a Hellcat guy :)
As for 300C, man I'd 100% be driving an SRT Hellcat 300c if offered.
Seems like OP has his head screwed on straight, with a kid on the way and dreams of a Viper, a Scat Charger seems like the right buy.
Anything an upgrade over the current ride, so go for it.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm a Hellcat guy and know their specs but I do know you can configure a 6.4L Charger several ways, so do your homework and join Hellcat.org and find the right Charger model for the specs you want.
Good luck.

In my 2016 Ram Sport, I disable the MDS every once in a while. Hit the gear- button on the steering wheel, then watch the odometer to see what gear you're in and hit the gear+ button until you're in 8th gear.
