I would never set an F&I manager up on a salary like that.

We pay ours a percentage, based on a number of things. They do make good money, but they also deal with a bunch of shit.

I was an F&I manager for 7 years at a dealership. We charged for nitrogen, and didnt even have it or use it. F&i guys make insane salaries. 80k to 120ish. They make the dealship loads of money.

Having worked at a dealership, i will never, ever take a car there for service. I know all the tricks, all the scams.

You worked at a shitty dealership, they are definitely out there.

That doesn't change the fact that your industry is antiquated and broken.

Actually, it's not. It changes every day.

In the end, like I've said numerous times, if I buy something, I would rather have someone to call rather than a 1-800 if something goes wrong.

Always slays me how people can badmouth car salespeople. I can think of numerous other industries, jobs, etc that are more worthless than a car salesman.

WARNING! RISK OF THREAD DERAIL 10/10!

I think the issue is that, right or wrong, people don't view car salesmen as adding any value to the transaction.

What do they provide that you can't get from the internet? Honest question.

Someone to call? If something goes wrong with my vehicle, I'm not calling my salesman. I'm calling the service department. Or am I misunderstanding that?

exactly...human resources personnel, tax assessor/collectors, building mgmt personnel, realtors, lawyers, politicians.... forum mods :D

Joking aside I think it depends on the brand too. I have had some bad experiences at Ford stores, but hands down the GM|Chevrolet stores are the ****ing worse, at least they have been in my experience.

With all due respect, I get lied to by customers every single day.

Give me a shot next time on a Ford and I'll show you how easy it should be. You wouldn't be my first sale to a Colorado resident.

You'd have to be a bozo to do something silly like buying a car from MO and driving it back to CO.

:D

What? Sounds like a damn fine way to spend vacation to me..........especially if youre driving home a GT350.

Just pack lots of oil for the ride.

I kid i kid!

LOL...you ain't wrong :D I'd be checking the oil every time I stopped for gas, doesn't take being very low to wipe out rod bearings in that car.

I’m tempted to call him about a focus ST, just for something cheap I never drive

But is fun to drive

I really liked mine but the Fiesta ST is actually a lot more playful chassis.

Lol I brought 10 quarts to do an oil change before I was gonna head home, but Nick said the guy did it right before he traded it back in. So I had 10 quarts just in case lol.

Didn't need them.

All depends on the person. I’ve dealt with good and bad salespeople.

Bought 2 vehicles late nov/early dec. 1st one was for me. Easy no pressure experience and price was the reason I bought over anything else.

2nd was for work. Called sales mgr and told him stock #xyz is what we want. How much does the check need to be out the door. Ended up spending hours at the dealer waiting on paperwork after setting an appointment time.

Dealer 1 will get my business again, dealer 2 I’m done with. Problem is I keep finding more dealer #2’s.

I think part of that is just the nature of sales in general, automotive sales or otherwise. I've worked with some excellent salesmen/women before- they knew the product, worked to understand the customer's needs, and were providing a service to the customer. Their interaction was valuable.

I've also worked with some (both as a customer and in my career) that were... not so good. It's a balance. If you're too honest, you risk blowing the sale, which I have done several times throughout my career (though I'm not in sales...). I've been brought to potential job sites and after evaluating systems said "I can save you a lot of money. Don't go this route. Do _______ instead, though we don't provide that service." There's the train of thought that being honest and providing that service makes a client remember you. That happens sometimes. Other times, they're out to take advantage of you.

*Multiple times.

Haha

DealerRater is kinda odd. We have to pay to be able to get reviews on there. I think we just signed up middle of last year or so.

I did not know that. ChevyDude recommended it and it looked good to me. That makes no sense that yall pay to get reviews.

Doesn't make sense to me either... but you're not really paying for reviews.

We're paying for a product that will send out automatic emails/texts to solicit reviews after a visit to the dealership; whether it's service, sales, parts, or body shop. It does increase the volume of reviews a store receives, just because it's a robot asking for them, and not relying on employees to remind customers to do them.

Gotcha. Well that makes a lot of sense then.
