The first time I was summoned for jury duty in the jurisdiction that I worked as a LEO, the case was a guy appealing his suspended driving conviction. The officer was a co-worker. I had previously arrested the defendant. Obviously all the court personnel knew me. The judge still made answer the questions (I stood up for all 10). When they called me up, everyone, including the defendant, laughed. I wasn't. I had to go back a second time before they would assign me to the civil panel.

I figure I am about due again.

Guess who pulls all the 911 call recordings, radio, CAD reports for every criminal trial that goes to Circuit Court?

I hope to head it off before I actually have to show up in court.

If you want to get dismissed, there are two ways I’m aware of that work almost every time. Pretend to be hard of hearing / almost deaf. Or when you’re asked at the end if there’s any reason you can’t be a fair and impartial member of the jury tell them you hate lawyers. Expand a little bit on your bias and how think it’s a bs profession and all lawyers are crooks, etc.

Or point to the accused and say out loud THEY ARE GUILTY AS SIN. My dad seen this done when he got called up and had to go through the questions phase. He said he never seen a bailiff/ deputy move so quick as the one by the door to remove said potential juror in his life.

not at my post...
The problem is you answered the summons. I just ignore them and have never been sent one that certified. Now if it actually came certified mail, then they know you got it and you better answer the summons. The one time I did answer they ended up not needing me to come.

The last selection process I was in the judge opened the entire proceeding warning people about pulling those stunts and offered court action as a response.

Only two times in my life have I been asked to show up for Jury Duty. Both times I claimed financial hardship and was excused. This goes back to at least 20 years ago. I have not been asked since.
I may have just jinxed myself...

How the **** do I get out of jury duty?
Seriously?

I received a jury notice in the mail a few years ago and I easily got out of it by answering the online questionnaire. All you need to do is say the word "racist" once and a jive or two about law enforcement and a blurb or two about stereotypes. It also does help if you know someone who was in the criminal justice system and as a result lack trust and faith in it.

In no more than ten minutes after filling out the form I received an official response saying "Mr. Solar Yellow, thank you but your service will not be needed."

I've been called for jury duty maybe 6 times in my lifetime. I've never refused or tried to dodge it because I consider it a civic duty. That said, once I requested to be excused because we would be away on vacation. And once I requested to be excused because my absence from the office at the time would be detrimental. Both were approved without a fuss.

Others have also told me to do nothing. Just not show up. This is Collier county. A land of law and order and there’s no way I’m doing that. I can just see me going to renew my drivers license and getting ****ed at the least.
