Thought I would post some pics of the vortech mock up on my spare motor. Once complete, the components will be transferred to the car...so far, blower brackets have been fabbed up, new 8 rib pulley set was fabbed up to match the original March setup... All courtesy of Bart Tobener @ Kurgan Motorsports (www.kurganmotorsports.com) in Atlanta, Bart is very familiar with 5.4 DOHC / vortech combo and knows what is required to install one of these and make it work and perform properly...I am working with a 2nd intake setup in parallel with Bart in my shop to get all of the induction parts fitted and checked before all of the parts and the car goto Bob Kurgan's shop for final installation and tuning...Using early prototype intake for clearance issues. Using Fore Fuel rails with 80lb injectors to start, in process of setting up a Fore dual pump hat with gt pumps and return style fuel system, all original plumbing and wiring will be left intact, using the existing 5/16 line as a return with 6AN fitting adapters and new 8AN supply line.

here is a link to some pics...more to follow :)

I am interested in your progress, Looks as if the prototype intake might have more clearance on the front drivers side intake tube??? Can you get a shot of tube through throttle body port?? Just ported intake and I found O-Rings from a escape, lower intake gaskets when reshaped fit the stock Cobra R grooves and cost around 8.50 for a complete intake set, Just need 2 sets, so this does not help dude on ebay selling 8 orings for 80.00. Thanx for the pics, keep up the good work.

Do you by chance know whatever happened to the other Cobra R that was supercharged? I believe it kept the stock intake manifold.

Actually, it is very close between the #5 trumpet and the inside of the top (less than .250"), really needs to be opened up, but with forced induction, it may not make a difference... I have seen a vortech V2 installed with the stock intake, and it just clears, I am using a V7 which is a little larger, but using the proto intake along with the vortech elbow used on the 99/01 cobra's , it works out perfectly.

That is good to know about the gaskets, now if we could just find one for the top...I do know that the 4 o-rings on the 4 upper intake mounting bosses are the same as the aussie 5.4 intake, but no luck yet ordering any, will have to find a sub for those too.

I just used 4 O-Rings from my A/C reseal O-Ring Kit, not a big deal to find ones that fit the groove. I did save the top seal.

Still speculation, but on race gas looking for between 900 and 1000, pump gas 700-800, car still has to pass emissions, so cats will be left in place, will be running about 20lbs of boost...:burnout:I figure if the super snakes can get 750 on pump gas , these engines should be able to do a little better...

Bill - I don't know if this is true, but I have heard and read it on several occassions that the centrifical blowers and the roots type blowers do not put out the same horse power numbers lb. per lb. of boost. I do not know the reason why? maybe volume differences?, not sure.........

I can say that I have seen Vortec centrif's that do spec at 1000+ hp but the S/C's I have seen are larger units and they were far from being street or emissions friendly. What is your Vortec unit rated in boost, size, etc?

The blower in the upper right of this post is the 3.6LC KB. It is rated at 800 rwhp. and 900 flywheel according to Roger at Shelby American. It is a step up from the Super Snake 2.8H that is at 725-750 (flywheel) and way larger than the Eaton that originally came on my car at 500 horse.<<All of this with OEM cast iron exhaust manifolds (no tubed headers) and still meeting emissions in the 50 states. Going beyond emissions, SA Motorsports is now building a 1000 hp Super Snake. One of the 1000 hp was recently sold to a buyer in the mideast.

I can say that currently, even with my 2.8H level @ 725-750, the hp drops off quickly as the heat rises. When I install the 3.6 liquid cooled I am also going to install the Shelby Upgrade Cooling System which includes a new/larger radiator, I/C, dual fans and other associated parts. Without a correctly sized intercooler system, the hp is short lived when things get hot.

When I was at the 40th, I stopped at the Vortech vendor tent and noticed that a 2000 Cobra R was on the cover of their brochure. I asked them if they made a kit for the 00R, they said no, but they had a 3rd party vendor who did.

This was the brochure back in 2003.............

I must admit that a 2000 Cobra R would be much more exciting at these higher S/C'ed hp levels, but there is also something to be said for having these higher hp levels and pinning yourself back in the seat with the A/C blowing............

Centrifical Supercharging and Roots provide different power, roots is a instant torque curve that carries boost throughout the power band, centrifical is a progressive boost, ramping up, there for torque is usually lower and HP is usually higher RPM based. The down side to boost for the 2000r is heat, based on what you want to do with the car. I can run laps around many higher HP cars( including Shelbys) on a open track due to heat soak, but on the street the Shelby feels so stronge. I think the heads and engine design in the R would make a excellent road car(corner Carver) with reasonable boost.(I think 575-650RWHP) is a reasonable power level to expect with 10-14lbs boost. If someone wanted to make life easy I think a complete Shelby supercharger could be installed on a R as a bolt on type install?? What do other think?

I am the owner of the Vortech 00R in Virginia. Still have it and she runs very well. With only 8 lbs. and the supporting fuel system with an h-pipe running around 650 at the rear. She's a blast with the blower. Only problem is need new tires.
